It's not even that insane for Reddit. It can be a sub about Microsoft Word, it doesn't matter

That right there is the problem with these folks. We wouldn't care if they wanted to mask for the rest fo their lives. Its just that everything else they do screams mental illness

I have perused this website off and on out of morbid curiosity over the past several months. If you read their posts, they usually indicate their fear of COVID also comes with a basket of other maladies. Most have anxiety, autism, OCD, fibromyalgia, and other mental illnesses. So the masking fears play right into these compulsions.
They'll tell stories about how their primary care physicians have gently asked them about their mental health and how perhaps it's time to give up the mask and they run to that message board to complain. Everyone in the echo chamber validates them and tells them to drop their doctor, break up with their significant others, ditch their non supportive friends, etc.
Without the internet they would have moved on with their lives but now they have some sort of morbid support network that tells them they're perfectly normal.
Yea, with the exception of the ones trolling, the actual Covid Zero people would be doing this type of thing anyway, just with something else. These are mentally ill people who LOVE having an excuse to act this way.
Covid itself is irrelevant. It's just the excuse.

When I see anyone masked nowadays, I assume they are not feeling well and are attempting to not spread what they have.
Of course some of them are trying to not get sick but I give them the benefit of the doubt.
What I find crazy is that they apparently haven’t updated the vaccine and or boosters since 2020. I mean they have a new flu shot every year and they are still pushing the same covid vaccine that wasn’t very effective or popular.

Here's a recent post

i've been masking in the house while he has been here, sometimes in a fit tested aura N95 but also in a KN95 when my long covid symptoms have made it hard to wear a headstrap. i eat in my room, but i've also unmasked outside of my room to brush my teeth and take a short shower. i used to be extremely diligent and brush my teeth in my room and shower with a mask on, but as my long covid has progressed my body just can't keep up with all the (literal) extra steps and sensory overwhelm.
