Thoughts on rack pulls? I currently DL once per week. I have been on the 5/3/1 program for about six or seven months.
Are you having problems at lock out? I addressed rack pulls a few posts above.

I pull 315 10x's til failure after 3 or 4 sets of graduated weight.
I am not a big fan of doing dl reps in excess of 6 as form tends to suffer and injuries are more likely. This is one of the major issues I have with crossfit training.

This but I will do some reps to warm up to maybe 315. 405 I usually will start backing down to low reps and start hitting singles or pairs at 495 depending on how I feel.

Are you still going up 5lbs per week? As long as you can make those gains on straight progression like that stay with it! Do you do any accessory work? If you are having problems where is your sticking point?
yes I'm adding 5 lbs on every lift every week. the over head press is where I'm the weakest. My bench is not great--really weak compared to what I used to lift. I'm only doing some dips, pushups, a few aux light shoulder stuff and leg curls.
Squat is my strongest so far. This week my totals will be (don't laugh--its been 12 years since I lifted:
Bench 5x5--185
Squat--5x5 230lbs
DL--5x5 205lbs
Standing overhead press--5x5-90lbs
Bent over Rows--135lbs.
i'm 188 lbs and probably will be more like 175 in a couple of months due to better diet and consistent workouts

I would stick with what you are doing if your lifts are still increasing. When you start to stall I would drop 5lbs and try to continue like you are. Make sure you take a rest week every 12 to 16 weeks as well. When your increases stall completely let me know as it will be time to change your program at that point.

thanks Dan. not sure if I'll be able to keep with those gains for 12 weeks. I'm 4 weeks in and so far so good. hopefully I can get 8-10 weeks and then maybe move to a 3x 5 or something...I'll welcome your advice when i reach that point.
My goals for 2014:
I would like to be squatting 275-315; Benching 225; DL--300, Overhead 135 and rowing 200

My one rep max on dead lifts is 405 lbs. I rarely ever attempt that though. I usually stay light on them, don't need another hernia or to blow out my back.

have to say I haven't been back in the iron game long and even when I was in it 15 or so years ago I rarely did deadliest. I have recently become a believer that this is THE Crucial lift for granite crushing ape strength.
Had similar background and now agree 1000%.

Deadlift is probably my best lift. Last time I maxed out at 550 pounds. I weigh 185. I can't remember what the program is that I used to take my deadlift from 500 to 550. It was something along the lines of 4 sets of 4 at a certain percentage. Then increase the percentage and do a set of 2, increase again and do a set of 2. Then go back to the starting weight and do 8+ reps

How long does it take before you are ripping 4-hundy off the ground?
I can do that in no time. I have a backhoe for that.

Just got back from the gym and there was a dude beating 500 lbs on the dead lift...He was close to 50 yr old and just a bit taller than me. What a beast

Ryno work the stronglifts program all the way through the 3x5 and 1x5 stages. After you fail on those you can make the choice as to what program you want to do. If you want to try to squeeze more out of a linear progression program I suggest the greyskull lp, if not I suggest you goto a weekly progression program like madcow 5x5 or the texas method. After that you have milked thise for what they are worth I suggest either 5/3/1 or juggernaut method. Also the outlaw way and cf football are two other good programs if you like Olympic lifting.
