The only bad thing is that if you do call the police, the neighbor is going to be down one dog. I hate seeing dogs put down

If you contact the police, can you stress that you don't want the dog put down?

I mean...he said the dog went outside to vomit, meaning the dog wasn't feeling well. Doesn't sound like a dog that is always aggressive. I would hate to be the cause of a someone's dog being put down.

If you have insurance just make the neighbors pay whatever it is going to cost you. Same with your dog. If they don't then call your lawyer

This. But I'd just file a claim against their homeowners insurance before calling a lawyer.

good thing is she has insurance...so she just had to pay a $50 copay

Talk to the neighbors now anyway and make sure they are willing to cover any medical costs that might arise.

I'm not in insurance or claims so I don't know for sure how this works, but I've heard some insurance companies try to make sure other policies won't cover the expenses before paying the claim. So it's possible her medical insurance may try to deny the claim if they feel homeowners should cover it.

I know in my Parish if one bites someone they will put it down. They will also put it down if they have to come get it 3 times because it's not leashed or gets out of its fence.

I have dealt with my neighbors pit for a while now and he has one more strike left before they take him for good. It cost him a few hundred to get it back the last time.

I am sure you could but they still may take it and make the neighbor pay to come get it out.

Yeah, I can see that being something they will consider.

I had to go last month. It was $333 for the ER visit, and another $500 for critical care. Not exactly thousands

Has the neighbor's dog been an issue before? Overly aggressive?

3 strikes for a pit is 2 more than there should be.

it's not...it is a really interesting conundrum...I've played with their dog before and he is a sweet bowling ball...

I just know that if I bring my dog to the vet I am not willing to pay $300 to get stitches

When I went to the ER for chest pain a couple years ago my bill I got was for lil under 5K. Insurance paid for all of it minus my $250 ER copay.

I was there less than 2 hours. All they did was a chest xray, ekg strip, some bloodwork, and gave me some iv toradol.

My son was in an accident and our health bugged the shite out of us to tell them who owned the property that it happened on

It was owned by a trust that my wife is part of so of course we never told them.

I agree. I live in the country and by neighbors I mean the people a few houses/several acres down. Unfortunately the side effect of living in BFE is sometimes dealing with trash.

The pit comes over here trying to get to my Goldens but they are behind a 5' chainlink I built for them.

I did shoot at it once when it was attacking the other neighbors cat but all I had on my was a pistol and I barely missed him. Had it been a rifle he would have been dead. I called the cops and that was its second strike. That was like 6 months ago and I haven't seen it over here since.

Isn't a bull terrier an off shoot of a pit? If that's the case it could be trouble getting homeowner's insurance to pay for it.

You also don't want your dog to get infected. Any bite, human or animals, are full of bacteria that could do more damage than the bite itself. You really need to take the dog in IMO.
