I love the Moab area south of SLC. Go buy yourself a Jeep and have a blast every day. I can't wait to get back out there again and the scenery is Beautiful .

I go out there a lot for work, mainly fly to SLC, drive to Vernal
I love the ogden and Bountiful areas, would live in PC or Heber too
would not live in vernal, nice people, brutal weather, too remote for me

We vacationed in Eden a few years ago and loved it. It's our western option for retirement (WI/MN being the Northern and Nashville being the Southern versions.)

I'm seeing a lot of good places to live. Just need to get some housing prices and availability.

The food sucks, drinking is a chore, Mormons aren’t as nice as you think, and the scenery is better in Colorado and not by a little bit.
Anything else you’d like to know?

You have no idea what you are talking about. The food is pretty great regarding steaks and bbq.

Park City is one of the most underrated mountain towns on the continent

quote:Logan is nice. Its also about 1 hour from SLC and 2.5 hours from Boise. As a retiree I think you'd like it, with a couple of caveats; you must enjoy the outdoors and be tolerant of the winters, Logan is probably 10 degrees colder than SLC on average. It's a small, conservative college town, but more similar to Utah than BYU IMO. USU is a land grant university, so you'll be surrounded by alot of agriculture and livestock, which I personally like. There's a decent selection of restaurants and pubs, and so long and you aren't a barfly its a great spot. Logan is in the Cache Valley so you get the best both worlds. Unless you live up a canyon you'll be on flatlands where you can see for miles, but you'll be a stones throw from Mt. Logan and many others. Bear Lake is close too, and be prepared to eat a metric ton of raspberries.
We have been looking for a place to relocate and somehow Northern Utah came up. I am retired now but have a 10 year old and a 14 year old. Looks like the schools are highly ranked but not sure about the overall area. We are not Mormons nor do we have any intention on converting to one. Anyone have any information on this area?
I've lived in SLC since 1995 and I have land in Morgan County that I'll eventually build on (SLC is becoming too big for my tastes). When I was looking for land, Logan/Cache was high on the list, but I eventually chose Morgan because of my familiarity with the area.
One suggestion I would make since you're retired would be to live there for a month at least. Maybe do that once in the winter and once in the summer. I've always preferred the shoulder seasons (spring/fall), but I think the extremes would give you an idea whether Logan would be a fit for you personally.
With respect to the Mormon population, opinions vary. I love it in Utah and have only felt any sort of discrimination - and I hesitate to even call it that - only a handful of times and they were people I didn't know and likely wouldn't socialize. You'll find that everywhere, but in other places it's typically not wrapped around a religion like it is here. I'm Catholic BTW. Anyway, you just forget about it in two minutes and move on, at least that's what I've done. This might be another reason to spend an extended period in Logan to see if it's a fit.
