People in her world grease the wheel every day as a matter of course. Sex, money, jobs,- everything is for sale . I find it totally plausible that living in that world that one is so desensitized to unethical behavior that one forgets what is illegal or not. It’s how people lose their souls- they become accustomed to being able to give favors to get favors and they feel entitled to get anything they want for a price. Unfortunately for her, the law doesn’t care .

They’ve got to prove intent. If she says she didn’t know it was illegal to give money to a school to get her kid in, why wouldn’t anyone believe that? Hell, I didn’t know it was illegal to write an endowment check to get your kid in.
Unless there is proof that she knew that the person that was handling this for her, and the university representative he was in contact with were compromising the university athletic scholarship system...well...how can they convict her? She had someone handle it for her. How would she know what he was up to?

It wasn't for a scholarship, as those count against the team... but more like a preferred walk-on spot. The athletic department asking the admission folk for some leeway on admitting an under qualified applicant, on the premise they may be beneficial athletically.

I'm not disputing any of that.
But the horse is out of the barn. She will be a victim of these treacherous white male heathens out to fleece poor ole lil Lori of her hard earned entertainment money.
She was just trying to make a better life for her family. She has suffered enough at the hands of the evil media and the Twitter mob.
She'll be on the cover of Time, People and Newsweek as the new face of the disadvantaged. She will be a hero to all of those millionaires who have been traumatized by something.
