feel bad for people that have to move to Houston to get good jobs. ?

There’s no way I would let a job dictate where I live.

Happened to me. I'm kind of glad though. My family lives a much better quality of life here and I make about 2x what I made in Louisiana.

Some people are ambitious and need jobs, it's just the way the world works.

There's no reason why Louisiana can't be like that. If this stae would start voting better and put some effort into improving their community instead of complaining or coping with weird anecdotal arguments and this state will finally start improving l.

I guess you don't get out much. I used to work political campaigns in this state and would hear something along the lines with at least half the people I talked to. Louisiana's problems are self inflicted, we're not victims at all. If you're smart or ambitious and not well connected, the smartest thing you can do is leave this state.

Your article doesn't mention that tiger droppings is responsible for most of them leaving.

I’m amazed there are people in this thread holding up Beaumont

The only part of Beaumont that doesn't suck is the NW side. But then again that was 10 years ago, so it may suck now too. It's a good place to avoid in general.

Right. You spend 40 hours of your week there, nearly half of your waking hours, so it makes sense to want to be stimulated at work

I'm not sure how these lists are built, but there's only 3 LA places out of the top 100 for fishing rankings.

LINK

This article ranked the top 10 fishing states in the US and LA isn't in the top 10 (though the Midwest is well represented)

LINK

According to this article, LA isn't a top 10 state for deer hunting (though again Wisconsin representing).

LINK

The boating piece as well...there are tons of states where boating is huge and very accessible to a large percentage of the population.

Louisiana does make the top 10 of this (Sconnie, I see you in there as well again )

LINK

Not looking to split hairs and maybe all of those things are incrementally better in LA but to put up with a reduced quality of life to have access to "maybe a little better fishing/boating/etc" seems odd.

the fishing list is mainly based off number of charters booked. not what is actually good fishing

im telling you...the best inshore salt water fishing and some of the best off shore fishing is in LA

LA is not good for deer hunting at all. way too many hunters for the population

and in the end i agree with you on reduced quality of life

but like for me...i dont have a reduced quality of life, actually the opposite. As an engineer, I can only really make what I do form houston to Nola with some small pockets throughout the US. I essentially need to be near large industrial areas, mainly refining, to be able to make what I do.

the only real downside to this state for me is having to deal with culture and having to pay for private school which really aint a big deal as I would prolly do that anyways.

That list appears to be only for freshwater fishing, the waters off of southern Louisiana are outstanding for fishing.

This is a weird scoring matrix, heavily reliant on their website.

Not disagreeing here, that western part of Wisconsin is elite and I am surprised to see Texas at #2

Eagle River Chain and the Waupaca Chain of Lakes are a must if anyone wants to do some boating in Wisconsin.

man west texas is bad arse deer hunting. small but lots of them

deer hunting up north in general is much better, size and numbers wise and there are a lot less hunters overall.

Eagle River Chain

My family has had a lakehouse just north of there, on South Twin Lake, since I was a small kid. Beautiful area with the forests and countless lakes, small towns (full of true baws) and outdoor activities. The asian milfoil has wreaked havoc on a lot of those lakes for years though.

Not sure sure about that.

This is a bit dated but I'd be shocked if it's changed much. The start of deer hunting in Wisconsin is like a holy day.

The Northwoods is awesome, super "high trust" community and plenty of fun shite to do. The recent "skiing" thread made me think about recently sitting at a local bar off of the snowmobile trail that had probably a $100k of equipment sitting outside with the keys in it and not one person was worried.

Side note: did you recently fly through ATW?

Wisconsin has more i meant the midwest in general but apparently i was wrong. I was shooting from the hip on that.

i am shocked by that chart though. especially with NY and Penn being that high. never would have thought that.

No, but I did fly through Green Bay back at the beginning of December. My brother was just up there from SW FLA with his family and may have come in through Appleton. Why do you ask?

deer hunting is culturally irrelevant in south louisiana compared to the midwest

kids don't even get the first day of rifle season off of school here
