If you get to choose an elementary, the answer is Ponchatrain Elementary. Get involved and can help get the best teachers.
The answer for OT ballers is Christ Episcopal

I've seen two "negative" comments in regard to CHS. What's the story there?
CHS has 3 distinct student populations: 1) Agricultural-centric students from north of Covington, 2) black community 3) College prep.
Those students whose parents desire solid college prep get it. That said, your child will be a part of a very diverse student body, many whose family are limited in resources and parental education.
You want see as much of that at MHS or SPS. I'd guess Fontainebleau falls in the middle.

This is kind of what I've heard in a nutshell. I'm guessing that MHS and FHS aren't as diverse? In regard to CHS, I've heard if you're interested in a good education, you get it as good as any of the other schools.

Christ Episcopal is worth it. Nurturing environment, great academics.

Nobody moves to the Northshore in order to go to Pitcher Junior High and Covington High

Great school (all 4 of my sons attended at one time or another).
However, I think 12 years of any school system is too much, but particularly in the "nurturing" environment of CES.

Correct.
MHS is fairly homogenous.
FHS was diverse, but lost some of that with Lakeshore opening.
Of course, the purchase price of your home is also affected by school dx lines.

Yeah, couldn't imagine going to Christ for high school right now. Too small. If you have that kind of money, you would probably switch to St. Paul's or Jesuit for high school.

Private.
Final answer.

Ahh, but if a child had spent 8 years in, say, Mandeville public schools, 4 years of CES High School might be just the ticket.
St. Paul's is off the chart at this time in extracurriculars. There is something there of value for every student. Biggest mistake most make is they don't take advantage of doing activities outside there normal interests. 5 years of football or 5 years of band is great, but try something else for 2 years. It is about 1/3rd of a child's life, up to that point.

Agree with all of that. A mix of public and private.
If you don't get active in a few things at St. Paul's it's your own fault.

Final answer.
Private schools do have a couple of inherent advantages:
1) not encumbered by government mandates.
2) Vast majority of students come from families that place a high priority on education (and one or both parents have at least undergrad degrees). That means your child will be in classes with other students who are expected to behave, to learn and to be successful.
Mandeville High and to a certain extent FHS both also have the latter.

Madisonville public schools and mandeville public schools are the best. No need for private school unless you want them to have a bible study hour or wanna flex those OLL, SSA, or SPS car magents

Yeah southshore people have trouble breaking out of that private school mindset. They're fine over here just not necessary, at least until the kids get older, if even then.

But in this area (Mandeville) it's just not a must
Definitely not a must. But if I had the expendable income, I'd still look at private It's not like most areas in LA where you should take out a second mortgage to make sure your kid isn't in public school. But there's probably still some benefit to private if you have the cash.

It's not.
OLL, SSA, Christ, SPS, Hannan, Northlake, Lake Castle, etc. all have their place and are better for some kids than any Northshore public school would be for them. Admittedly not for ALL students, some kids would do better in a public school.
Don't generalize against those schools, you come off as shallow. Your comment about window stickers was petty and makes you seem jealous whether you are or not.
tl/dr: Either public or private can be good options depending on the kid.

I don't see how Hannan or northlake could be better than sps, ssa, or even mhs
