Buy a firm and flippable mattress with no frills. Add toppers accordingly.

This 100%. For this reason, don't even bother reading mattress reviews. A mattress that is pure bliss for one person, is absolute torture for the next.

Just rent you a uhaul and pick up some mattresses off the side of the road and leave them in the uhaul for like a week during the hot summer to kill all the microbes and bed bugs. Then keep the one that feels best. Ain't nothing like a broken in bed mattress.

We’ve had a Sleep Number I-8 for five years and love it. Best mattress by far that we’ve ever owned.

I have a hybrid memory foam for the last 8 years and still comfortable.
