No it won't charge the battery when not running.

Go by a parts store and have the battery load tested. Check the battery terminals for corrosion too

The charging signal and beeping is now happening while driving as opposed to when only stopped prior to replacing the alternator.

I just drove 2.5 miles and it beeped on 3 different occasions. It’s almost worse since changing the alternator. But it doesn’t do it while stopped now.

Go back to my post and read that. I spent my time researching this you know?

I swear I just waste my time giving advice on TD. This thread might cure me on doing it anymore.

Or crank the truck up and lift the positive cable off the battery. If it shuts off it’s the alternator.

Has to be running to charge. How old is the battery ? 2.5 miles isn’t a long ride to charge a weak battery. Have the battery tested and run it more and see.

I have an XLT and had to change out my alternator about a year ago. At first it sounded like a power steering issue. I eventually was able to smell it burning up

All of our 2010 f150 alternators are going bad at the same time. Just changed mine last year as well and same symptoms.

About to hit 250k on her!

Could be a tensioner. I would use a mechanics stethascope to isolate noise

Like someone said, the cooling fan could have issues unrelated to your battery like the fan motor bearing or fan clutch going out. Listen closely to identify the source of the noise. I don't know if a bad fan could cause the voltage error but it's worth looking into. Those fans typically kick on when you're sitting still because you don't have the air flow that you'd have when traveling.

So I took the truck back in today and had them look at the alternator. The message came on while they had it but they drove it and it didn’t come back on (shocker). It came on about 5 times later today on a 10-15 min drive.

I found out today I was low on Freon which was causing the fan to work overtime.

However, after topping it off, the fan is still blowing harder than it should.

Should I replace the fan? Would that be a reason why the charging message is coming on?

Should I be worried if the alternator does charge the battery when running and the alternator is new?

So you haven’t solved the 3 beep battery notice yet right?

Somethings not adding up here.

Which fan is running ‘hard’?
Have you had the battery tested yet?
Does the F-150 have a star connector for the main controls?

No, that is one of the alternator’s jobs.
Need to test that battery

200k on my f150…wait until the plastic piece that manages recirculating brakes off inside the ac blower fan. You will know that rattle when it happens.
