You say this like it's a bad thing that economic output will eventually not be dependent on human labor.
It’s a bad thing for society if the majority of the population spends their entire life subsisting on UBI checks and government housing

I think there’s a Microsoft poster on here who was part of these layoffs
I have a close relative who is a principal at Microsoft, and who was not laid off. He's flying in later this week for a visit.

All the Progs that laughed at Elon for cutting at Twitter going to do the same for their hero Gates?

Most of the big tech companies way over hired during Covid and they are now facing slowing sales.

I’m not going to celebrate the loss of livelihood of anyone that isn’t a politician, banker, or journalist, but it’s obvious from the recent tech labor crunch that there were a lot of unnecessary jobs that existed in that industry.
I got caught up watching Interns the other day on TV. That movie made Google look like an amusement park. Thousands of unneeded workers which pretty much rings true today.

Agreed. I'm in the back half of my career at this point so I'm not really worried about it. I suspect maybe in 30 years many more jobs will be automated but the government having even more control over people is not going to be a good thing.

The cheap capital dried up once all the boomers retired. No one is going to dump money into projects like Uber that take 10 years to turn a profit.

but that's a completely separate issue from heading towards the technologically advanced point of being able to create anything we need without human labor.
Robots can grow cricket and beetle food. But why should they feed humans who contribute to society.
Wonder what will happen to humanity when a meteor or other calamity destroys the electric power source.
I wonder how many young people, say under thirty, know how to quickly build a fire, or have any survival skills. Once AI comes dominant a reset is enevitable.

AI can do all jobs now - humans not needed - they could start tomorrow and replace 75% of work force and never miss a beat. It’s not a matter of if they can do it, it’s a matter of when they want to do it. You are replaceable right now.

I guess "learn to code" doesn't work in this instance?
How about "get a CDL".
Unskilled laborers getting stiffies every time intelligent/successful people face hard times.

Exactly, all the consultants and middle management on here don’t think they can be replaced lol

They should just learn to code.
Did I do that right?
This wasn't funny the first 3 times it was said.

No. AI can't do plumbing, welding, electrical, mechanical or hvac without a person to assist. Manual labor will always require humans.
Dr's, lawyers, office personnel could all be replaced today.

I hate to bust up the party, but many of these layoffs were on the Xbox games division. Specifically in zenimax, the company that owned Bethesda. Its been a year and many of those jobs were duplicates of someone already at msft

Learn to code, and lol at bill gates putting so many out of work
Posted on 1/23/23 at 6:23 pm to LSU_postman
Cheering on people getting fired is so hot right now though. Everyone should be a plumber.
