You lazy dumbasses obviously have not followed this thread.

I'm not going to rehash whether giving a 14 year old kid the responsibility of deciding what is and what is not safe conditions in the Atlantic Ocean.

These boys may be dead as the result of an accident or it was done intentionally, it can't be both or anything else. You've already said it wasn't an accident, so....good luck with that line of thinking while you call everyone else a dumbass.

In fairness, I wouldn't have done it if there were actual updates or literally anything else going on in this thread, but it's been quiet for a while now, so it's not like you're missing anything.

I was 15 and bullet proof for a while. Did a lot dumber shite than these kids did. But we were not all hovered over then.

They tried to beat the storm, the engine went out, (hence the missing cowling), they were adrift in a bad storm, and were capsized, and drown.

shite happens like this in the ocean every day. Every fisherman I know can tell a story like this. 99% of time you get a break and live and learn. Age 14 to 89. They made a miscalculation and paid for it with their lives. We (offshore fisherman) have all been there. I needed one more fish, they just started biting, we could make it, maybe it would hold off, etc etc, If they would have survived this they would have learned too, and not made this mistake again.

The closest I have ever come to dying I was with an guide on his boat off Midnight lump. The whole damn Louisiana tuna fleet with 100s of years of combined experience miscalculated a winter storm that NWS said would not hit until the following day. Life jackets didn't matter.

All you people blaming parents are just assholes and idiots. They will to live with this the rest of their lives. They should have had a damn Epirb but then I don't have one either, I have a whaler. (still should have)

I really just wish Florida would require them on all new boats. People would bitch but would save dozens of lives a year in that state alone.

Really just bad situation, bad call and bad luck. Prayers to the families.

If I did more offshore stuff, I'd get one of these in a heart beat. It's worth every penny if you get in trouble.

They have become so much less expensive now that there's really no reason not to have one.

Great post, and it bears quoting.

Having been in a real tight spot before, I'm whole lot quicker to get life jackets out. IDC if it makes people nervous, you're putting them on.

Yeah Gator. They used to be 200 bucks on sale what r they now?

I know kids hate life jackets, (teenagers most of all) I wish those inflatables would become cool. We lost of lot of Class A sailors in a boat race few months ago for same reason. No one wears them

I live on the Atlantic in Florida, I'm in the water every weekend. The Gulf Stream is a essentially a river in the Atlantic moving at 5 mph and pushes everything north and east and is the reason they found the boat north and east. One of the most powerful currents in the world. Do 5 times however many hours they've been gone and it takes you to about 600 miles away from where they went in at Jupiter and why the search has reached north to Charleston. Frightening stuff.

Does that eventually swing back into the Atlantic?

No. once it hits the outer banks in NC it moves towards Europe and assists in creating the temperate climate of Europe. Amazing stuff. Very strong current.

I've never seen them for $200. They used to be about $1000 when they first came out IIRC.

Just like big TVs though, the prices come down.

The lowest I've seen is $399 not on sale.

So basically if they are floating along, they could hit Europe before anyone finds them.

That's well put. Just to add, they interviewed some of their class mates who all to a kid said that "both of them thought they were invincible." Just typical 14 year old boys. Sad situation to pay with your life for a miscalculation at that age.
