Because Louisiana has authoritarian laws when it comes to “taxing” vehicles and other little things.

The ad valorem tax goes to the city or county school in the district where the car is registered

Or have an insurance company deny you when you make a claim.

Not many places for people to work that live in Wilkinson and Amite Co. I know a lot of plant baws that drake that drive. Also most people living in that area do their main shopping in BR and use the doctors offices

Your plate doesn't need to match your insurance state. My insurance has been Florida for 15 years because I never got around to changing it. During that time I've lived in Louisiana for several years and California. Insurance has never inquired about anything.

ETA: Thats also two different insurance providers. Progressive and now Geico.

2nd ETA: Although that could be because ive never made an auto insurance claim in my life.
