For Houston, it's Watt, bur your line of thinking is correct. Worldwide, Harden is 10x more famous/popular, but most Americans don't realize how big basketball is now internationally. Basketball is far more or a superstar driven sport than football. Watt just has an unbelievable brand in Houston, so I think that puts him over Harden.

I think Watt is more popular in Houston, but my point is it is alot closer than people in this thread are making it out to be

Does James Harden or JJ Watt have a bigger fan base in Houston?

You obviously dont live in Houston. JJ Watt by a landslide, because football is the most popular sport, and JJ Watt is the best player on Houston's team for the most popular sport, and hes one of the best in the NFL. I also think his race plays a role strangely....its a little annoying too.

I agree. It's not a laughable question, and kind of an interesting topic because it's an anamoly.

As a non watcher of NFL or NBA, I only know of jj watt because he's everywhere. TV, radio, the grocery store, here on the OT, work

He and his name are very recognizable

Would largely depend on who you ask in houston. Ask a black kid, its definitely harden.

I would hope race plays no role, but you might be right.

I would think women in Houston would know Watt more. I would think women in other states would know Harden more. His beard/commericals have more national appeal to non-sports watchers

You can't live in Houston. Watt is in every damn commercial. I haven't seen Harden in a while. I'm not saying you're wrong in general, but nobody does commercials like my JJ Watt (if you live in Houston you get that last line.)

IN TEXAS and Houston FOOTBALL is the most popular sport. Did you not catch that? Obviously if you are asking nationwide and internationally its much different and Harden probably reaches further, but amongst Houston residents alone its JJ Watt by a mile. Just think about all the local commercials with JJ Watt included in them, HEB is a huge Houston/Texas brand, and hes in their commercials , and just last night the news was talking about JJ Watt just mentioning the Pearland little league team (he lives in Pearland).

Also, Houston is 25% black. So that % is going to lean huge towards Harden. So to say "landslide", "not remotely close" based on that percentage alone is incorrect

Football is the more popular sport everywhere in America, yet basketball players trump football players individually

Look at my previous quote that disproves your "by a mile" stance
