Thanks,
I have real estate in the immediate area and spend a lot of time enjoying the area and lsu property.

It is slowly coming back.. the two new remodels of the historic building into condos came out very nice. Hopefully this bookends this end of the street with chimes on the other and it redevelops more.

all I could find

5 September 1986 Houston Cullen Performance Hall
6 September 1986 Dallas Bronco Bowl
8 September 1986 New Orleans McAlister Auditorium, Tulane University

there is a sept 7 date open but it seems like there would be a record of them playing in baton rouge

Dated a huge Smiths fan and we saw them a McAlisters that year if they had played in BR at that time we would have been there.

Agree...late 80s was my era. The Smiths didn't play BR, and as some have said, we would have known about it...........rather, The Smiths
quote:

were played
in many bars around campus: Murphy's, Ernie's, others. How Soon Is Now was on the regular rotation.

U2 played the PMAC in fall 1987 or spring 1988 if I recall correctly.

Saw Boston, Whitesnake, Guns N Roses there as well.

Speaking of GNR: when Paradise City or Welcome to the Jungle came on in Murphy's, it was often throw down time. the girls migrated to the periphery of the bar, and the tension in the air you could cut with a dull knife between rival frats. The middle of the bar became mosh pit/UFC central and it was quickly a free-for-all until Big Ed and his roided up friends stepped up, stepped in, and gave us lollipops to go home to our mothers for an evening of reflection.

Good times.

I want to say REM played at the Bayou before they were famous. Maybe my imagination.

Yep and I saw them at Tulane. They didn't come to the US until they were playing decent size venues.

They did play the Bayou in 81 or 82. Flaming Lips also played the Bayou in about 85.

What’s the inflation rate on “dollar Calls”(Wednesday night)? $3 calls? Everyone blamed Ben Wynn, but weren’t they scheduled to close the next year anyway? I thought the Wynn incident accelerated the inevitable by a year or so. I somehow recall the original closing was going to be after the ND at LSU game.

Bennett was wanting to get out of the bar scene and transition into being a restauranteur. IIRC he had opened a place next door. The Wynn thing probably forced his hand. Pretty sure he didn't want to do it so abruptly.

That never happened. I was at LSU when the Smiths broke and was afan of them so would've known if they played anywhere in BR or NOLA. REM played at the Bayou in '81 I think so maybe that's what people remember

Thanks for clearing that up. I didn’t want to call bullshite on the guys post, but I didn’t think there was anyway The Smiths played Murphys or that Murphys would have booked them.

In other words, they weren’t on the college bar circuit.

REM used to play at the Chimes. They certainly were.

Sadly, the student environment in which it thrived is long gone.

That’s a whole lot of words to say “dat ain’t us, brah”.

So is there any sort of copyright infringement being suggested? Why issue the statement at all?
