Is there a mom in the picture? If so, are you and she still a couple?

As someone that has been through it from your sons perspective... You have to cut them off. Not necessarily all of a sudden, but tell him he has 2 months. He doesn't have to get a permanent job but something where he can support himself while he looks. I was applying for medschool and I waited a year while my parents helped me out (for emergency situations)... Finally they had enough and cut me off. They still helped me pay for the MCAT, but that definitely put my arse in gear. I moved from my par time bartending gig to a full time job. I know it was hard on my mom, but I thought I was a better person for it. She would call and ask if I needed money (normally I would jump on the opportunity) and I would say no. Sometimes it takes something like that to come to reality.

I know a lot about this too but from the parental side. I raised sons that are all very successful but had a work ethic ingrained in them from a very early age. It served them and me very well. Not only did they go into well paying jobs immediately after school but they had a work ethic that has served them well. Help was given when necessary. I didn't scrimp on $s to and for them but they learned the value of an earned dollar.
And now they have a fresh crop of generations coming along that are learning those same lessons.

My parents let me live in the basement, it's pretty cool but hard to bring chicks back from the bar.

You and your son lack discipline.

Convert to nudism and start making everyone have to go nude while in the house.

Pipe down son. Don't interrupt your father's thread.

Is he a good looking guy?
Tell him he can make some spare change on Chaturbate jacking off for gay dudes for money.
That should hold him over until he can find something.

Do what my dad did, give me the option of getting a job and paying my own way, or a parting gift that consists of a 3 piece luggage set if I didn't.

What can I do to motivate him to get off my payroll? I'm old and need help understanding this generation.
Instead of asking for advice from an internet thread, put on your big boy pants and kick him to the curb.
