You should take him to the batting cages and teach him the fundamentals before you go out and pay ex LSU players to teach him how to hit moonshots.

God bless you guys for trying to change the boys life. Sad situation all around. He will try your patience but he just needs some love and attention. You are doing a really good thing here.

You and your wife are real live angels for taking on this challenge to save a child who's been dealt a terrible hand in life.
Eta: two 'luxury' items I suggest to get him first are a pair of shoes and a baseball cap. Cheap and easy way to make a huge improvement in his confidence when he's to go in public. Oh and a new haircut.

Just let him feel like he fits in. Don't go crazy doing stuff that you wouldn't normally do,but get his input. Kids need attention and to feel like they belong and matter in a family setting. He just might surprise you and open up and be himself.
