"I got the ladies from the 80's from here to White Castle!"

maybe you should wait until they finish the new bridge

Why? I know there is one small area that has some decent homes, but tell your wife to do a pro and con list and get back to you after that.
I have a story about a former white castle mayor. For the longest time white castle had the same mayor. I forget his name, but a white guy who was first elected when the demographics there were different. This was in the early 2000s, but that mayor passed away. I am not sure if he was still in office or he appointed someone to finish his last term and passed away then or what, but he lived in the biggest house in the town, which people referred to as "the mayor's house" because that's where the mayor lived.
White Castle was a completely different place from when the old man first became mayor and when he passed away. I wouldn't say it is really a race thing because anyone with the means, who wasn't tied to sugar cane moved out.
People can see the demographics here.

Where this person is likely thinking about moving is probably not in the city limits, but anyway.. The new mayor got elected, a black guy.. nice guy.. but he goes to the house the old mayor lived in, where is wife still lived. He knocked on the door and she answered and he said "I was just wondering when you planned on moving out so that I can move in". Dude thought it was like the white house. "the mayors house".. That old lady had to explain to him that was her house... as in she owned it and bought it when her and her husband first got married.

I’ve been to several basketball games that White Castle played in. Judging by the crowd, I assumed the only white thing in the town was the castle.

Brandon Landry is from there. Did okay for himself.
I went to middle school with Brandon. His family is good people, but he didn't live in the city limits and was one of only a handful of well off families in white castle.

What's wrong with this? His family was/is well off, but his parents set him up to do his own thing instead of just giving him money. Sounds like the American dream to me.

What's wrong with this
You know most of the state, and this board, is ate up with jealousy and "little man can't get ahead" bullshite.
He shouldn't hate or be jealous or hateful of others, and instead should focus on improving his lot in life. But that wouldn't be the OT way.

A lot of these small towns in the South dont suffer because of white flight. They end like that because the people of means are having to move to Houston or Atlanta to find jobs. The few young people left in town are of a certain demographic because its harder for them to move at all.

My wife wants to move to Italy. Get your house in order.

It would be a great place to live if you only had 6 months left to live because it would feel like eternity. I grew up there and still have family there and go back to visit about twice a year. DO NOT do it.

My mother's family comes from there going back to the 1800's, I spent many a holiday there during the 70s and 80 and even lived there for a few years in the early 90s.
Back when I was a kid, it was a little Leave-It-To-Beaver-sville. I could walk from my grandparents' place on Adam's Drive down to Vaillon's (which I was thinking was Bajon's for some reason, until I looked at the map just now) and buy a Coke and some comic books, or get a snowcone from the stand on the corner of Bowie and Moss. Back then there was only the one project (by the cemetery), a few bars, a grocery store (Sammy's, I think) and Weill's Department Store (among a few other things). Sugar cane was king, the economy was good and the town was safe.
My grandfather sold his home back in the late 90s/early 00s and by that time the place had long since starting going to shite. The closure of some mills nearby and the addition of at least another project (on the south side of town) had caused people to either move out of town or leave the area altogether.
All that is to say this: unless you are into hunting, fishing, doing drugs or tinkering in your shop (woodworking, fixing vehicles, etc), there's not shite to do there. Unless things have changed, even the nearest restaurant is probably going to be in Plaquemine.
If they ever get the bridge put in, that could change as the location would make it ideal for re-gentrification (since there's already plenty of highway, water, sewage, etc infrastructure there).

I am not a jealous person. Never have been.. Do I think "man I wish I had it like them" sometimes? Sure, I think that is human, but I never really understood disliking people because they have more money. Now if someone has money and they acquired it unethically then I get it, but unethically and illegal are two different things. And I am sure most people, who had the opportunity that person did to make the money they did, would do the same thing.
