We shouldn't take guns from law abiding people, but we need to figure out how we're going to keep them out of the hands of crazy people. I don't think that's such a crazy idea.

Newsflash: making things illegal doesn’t prevent criminal or crazy people from doing them.

I realize nothing is going to happen tomorrow, next week or even in the next ten years. However, if these school shootings continue over the next one hundred years at the same rate we've seen in recent years I don't know how we can keep ignoring it.

It’s being “ignored” because half the population insists that the only action to take is making certain categories of inanimate objects illegal, when in reality that will do nothing at all.

These weapons existed before the school shooting trend ramped up. More and worse weapons were available to the general public in those days as well. It’s not the fricking guns.

It’s the parenting, and it’s the society we’ve created that is fricking up these people.

yay america, guns, school shootings, children being murdered. But republicans are worried about drag shows.

More people overdose than die of guns, but the democrats are worried about a scary black object.

And when you separate out 17-18 year olds from children. More kids are dying in accidents like car wrecks and drownings. So I guess we should just start banning everything.

All schools are gun free zones courtesy of the 1990 Gun Free School Zones Act

Odd how school shootings were unheard of until after this was passed....

Yeah, you don’t see that often when it comes to mass shootings. I can’t really recall it ever occurring with any mass school shooting.

Well, I wasn't going to say that- but we do live in a time when biological males are referred to as "she or her" in the media. So until confirmation is made, there's always that possibility...

And when people think security at an elementary school, they're not thinking that it's necessary to prevent some psycho with a gun from shooting up the place. It's such an incredibly rare random act of violence that it's not going to move the needle for a school's budget discussions.

Should be done at the federal level IMO.

We hand out billions to other countries like it's monopoly money.

Don't get me wrong, I get the logistics of this couldn't be done at the snap of a finger but strictly monetarily, we could very easily equip every single public school in America with state of the art security technology with for about the same amount of money as one of our rounds of funding to Ukraine.

We can afford it. It would not stop every school shooting and save every kid's life, but it seems obvious that it would help save some lives, but we don't want to do it.

We rather give our money to everyone else, but when it comes to putting this money to help protect our kids...it's crickets.

No opportunities for graft or kickbacks. Taxpayer dollars are only ever dolled out if the politicians dolling out the taxpayer dollars can enrich themselves, legally or illegally, by doing so.
