We have data that shows this to be complete bullshite. That's why you'll eventually need to pivot to "I was talking about gun violence."

Just to be clear, I am talking about gun violence. More specifically, I am talking about the sheer number of people dying at the hands of criminals.

Obviously, things such as sexual assault, robberies, etc would not be affected really.

I don't know that violent crime would decrease in a drastic way.

Would it be less lethal? Probably.

But less violent? I'm not so sure about that.

I am talking about lethality. I perhaps wasn't precise enough when I said violent crime in general.

Swords are pretty lethal. So are knives, homemade explosives, vehicles, etc

Perhaps?

Well that's fine.

But in your gun free world, you would just be in here talking about whatever replaced guns as the lethal choice of criminals.

Wish away the actual driver of the violence, not the tool.

but you can't ONLY talk about gun violence. It doesn't exist in a vacuum.

You know what COULD affect those? The victim having a fricking gun.

Have you not read the stats that have been presented in the last 10 or so pages?

UK and AU saw their homicide rates go up initially and drop at a slower rate compared to other developed countries are the next several decades.

Quite the opposite actually. Rape and violent crime rates have soared in these countries even as the rest of the world has seen the numbers decline.

We have the data to prove it is incorrect. Many actually refer to the the legislation in the UK and AU as completely failed experiments that won't be reversed because now the government has full authoritative power. See how these countries handled their citizens trying to do anything other than what was state mandated during COVID.

Tasers, pepper spray still remain a thing.

So I should bring pepper spray to a knife fight? How effective do you suppose that would be and how much training do you have to make such an assertion?

"God made man, and Sam Colt made them equal" was drilled into my head by my dad. As a pretty small woman, I'm sad I don't have more guns.

I'm no match for a man with a knife, bat, etc. Even an unarmed man, for that matter.

Why? Is it better to be stabbed to death than shot?

If we rid society of the 5-10% causing most of the problems, we certainly take a turn for the better.

So, you can either treat law abiding citizens with respect and crack down on crime, or you can be soft on crime, and remove all implements of harm from society.

The latter is stupid, but its what Progressives choose.

pepper spray and tasers don't work IRL like people think they do. Most times, it just pisses off the attacker even more.

I haven't had a chance to go through the whole thread, so I'm not sure if this was already posted

They have since made their twitter account private.

How exactly are we supposed to interpret this?

Or images like this:

It doesn't exist in a vaccum. But I would argue that it's the biggest issue this country is facing.

I feel like this is a circular argument in a way. Guns are the most effective method of self defense, bar none. It also happens to be the best method for a criminal to carry out their nefarious goals.

If we put small government conservatives on one side of the Mississippi and socio-democrats on the other and made two different countries I believe we would quickly see what works and what doesn't. I'd give it less than 10 years before a Bernie Sanders clone was blaming gun shows in St Louis for murders in Ohio, even if there were no firearm sales allowed to citizens of the other side.

If you are armed with nothing but your fists against someone with a weapon. Which person do you have a higher chance of survival against, the person with a knife, or the person with a gun.
