right... so a foreign adversary (hypothetically, but still ) strikes the continental US, and your first thought... as an American... is "well, let's hear the issues, maybe they have a point"...

Yes, of course. Morality comes before state.

Like the morality of slavery?

he's pointing out your hypocrisy of celebrating a guy like Bedford while using the term "morality before state", something Bedford himself didn't adhere to, obviously...
it's not a straw man argument....

hmm... yes, the reason he fought IS quite the mystery, isn't it? look, i don't think the guy is the devil incarnate, okay? and yes, most of the people fighting in the CW didn't own slaves, i know that... and i'm not saying we shouldn't acknowledge the CSA, or the CW, or anything like that...
i'm saying we shouldn't be memorializing those who did choose to side with an adversary to the US... if the CSA had won, i would more than likely feel the exact same way about memorializing Lincoln, or Grant, or anyone else from the losing side...
there is a difference between remembering and memorializing, and i just don't think the latter is appropriate for any entity that opposed the US, ever...

They should call and see if NOLA will give them his statue

i didn't take down any of the ones that are down... i do think that those statues have their place in society... however, i happen to think those statues, of the "heroes" of the CSA, are more appropriate in a museum, or some other facility that can be freely visited, but that is not openly displayed as some sort of vague iconoclastic memorial to a clear adversary of the US

No but there are statues of Geonimo, Tecumseh, etc.

those should be taken down as well, IMO... again, straight to the museum, don't demolish them, but they do NOT need to be on display as a memorial to an adversary of the US

To limit the government's ability to stop you from buying, selling, and owning black people, sure

This is already on the political board where it’s being defended and lauded. Apparently Forrest was a hero who is someone to be admired. And apparently he did like blacks, he just sold them before the war and became a founding member of the KKK, which wasn’t founded to intimidate black people, but to protect from northern tyranny.
He was a proud democrat. Sounds like a lot of other democrats.

Serious question, are you really that fricking retarded or are you actually having to try to do it?
