About 6 years ago me and a buddy were flying from Tampa to Nashville and we had a connect in Atlanta. When we were about to land (just a few hundred feet from the runway) the pilot went full throttle and we ascended and started circling the runway for another attempt to land the captain told us over the intercom the reason we didn't land was because another plane on the runway had not taken off yet.... That's kinda important information to communicate ahead time right?

tim dilon warned us. a major US airliner plane crash is coming and it's coming soon.

Nah man, JW posted that we were overreacting to be concerned.

People mock Southwest but I don't think they have had a single crash in the history of the organization.
Edit didn't realize Southwest was so hated

Southwest
They have the most recent fatality of the US airlines a few years ago. The number 1 engine on one of their planes threw a turbine blade into the window of row 14. A woman was partially sucked out and later succumbed to her injuries. Granted, I believe GE only tested the blade ejections at the 12 o'clock position, and the cowling was supposed to contain a failure, but I believe southwest maintenance practices were called into question for not detecting the micro fractures on the blade. GE also had to do more testing and change the design.

We are truly getting dumber by the day.
I believe this to be true as well. The internet and smart phones have made us insanely dumb and emotional.

Why the F is this happening more often. Felt like I never ever heard about this stuff even 5 years ago.
What’s the change in occurrence vs change in reporting access with 9,000 angles to get news from?
I assume a little of each issue?

There's going to be a collision eventually.
I hope to God I'm wrong.

No significant crash
A plane overshot runway and slammed into a house by Midway though

and ran off the end of the runway in Burbank and into a gas station
ETA: one in Midway killed a baby, iirc, that's probably significant to that family

That’s Southwest’s only passenger fatality in history.
They have another caused fatality when they overran the Midway postage stamp runway in a snowstorm in and plowed into a car on the highway. It made for a pretty wild picture.
They have two other deaths but one was a woman who was killed when she tried to storm the cockpit and another was a dude trespassing on airport property when the plane hit him so you can’t count those against them.

SWA has gotten away with a lot of "cowboy" type flying over the years because , no matter what you think of them, they're a glorified commuter airline, and they are way behind IT wise, they're winter fiasco is an example of that
It's a shame for Southwest they haven't slammed into the ground as much as real airlines like American, United, Delta, Continental, Pan Am, TWA, and US Airways have

He doesn't. Good policy.

I was on the flight. If a restaurant had been open, I would have bought the whole flight crew dinner. They did an amazing job shutting it down just before wheels up. Amazing response time and professionalism.
Doesn't change the fact this is happening too often. Delta really dropped the ball helping people get home. Waited on hold or in line for hours, (I have 2.2mil miles with Delta) then I just grabbed a rental car and a microwave burrito. Drove all night to Houston to get flight home
