Yes, same thing, just no water proofing required.
You can install a wood decking with a tile backer board screwed to it, but it will be almost impossible to get that at the correct height so that the top of your floor tile are even with the base tile along your wall. It might be possible if you are a really good carpenter. If you are that handy, you can probably handle the dry pack floor though.
You may want to get a Mexican from in front the nearest Home Depot.

Seems the simple solution is screw down some hardyboad to subfloor and pour the leveling mix till desired elevation is reached, spread some thinset and tile, drill a few holes to mount the toilet and use some concrete anchors to secure to the hardyboard/subfloor.
I'm just a simple handyman though and some may know a lot better.

I've never messed with a pier and beam foundation and I'm pro DIY but you sure as hell better hire someone to get you a level floor back. Then once the floor is back to being the right height lay the tile yourself.
The explaination about makes sense, but that's a fricking mess right now being that deep.

I’m willing to bet by the time you finish this project you will have spent more than what it would have cost to hire a professional. Plus you’ll have the bonus of wasting several hours of your life

Can you knock it all out down to the beams and put in plexiglass? Would be tight

This is great to watch and follow along with

Is that old linoleum that’s hardened over time?

Is removing the flooring that I did gonna compromise structural integrity?

Progress so far. I’m going to have to replace some wood

So many man cards need to be revoked in this lol thread.
op.
1. Rip all that shlit out, plywood/subfloor boards too.
2. Inspect joists and repair, replace, level. Double up if/as needed. I doubt you can read a deflection table so just make sure no bounce when you jump.
3. Install subloor to correct height using layers as needed. Min 3/4 inch plywood. No need for cement board.
4. Double check level and floor heights.
No turning back now
5. Ditra, watch a few videos.
6. Snap center lines and plan layout.
7. Tile. Should be very diffuclt to pull up a freshly laid tile and should hear some suction if thinset mixed correctly. I like 255 and 4xlt
8. Grout (you should get a workout pushing it into joints, if not, you used too mucn water)
9. Set toilet
10. Crap and enjoy

Just watched a ditra video and I liked that idea.

I may have this project in the near future so I’m glad I got to see your screwups

I just wanted to chime in... I have zero knowledge of tile laying except what I’ve learned in this thread. Very entertaining to read. Amazing how much knowledge is just hanging around in peoples’ heads on the OT.

Yeah I don’t think I’ve messed up to bad. Got it all up, going to remove all the wood I think and install plywood over it, then get whatever ditra is and lay that down, then put the tile down. Does that sound about right?

I don’t see anything you did that was wrong. These old houses were built tough
