So you have a neighbor politely asking you to solve the problem and you are pissed off? You just want the same information presented to you in a different manner? YOU are the one causing the problem. Perhaps YOU should go talk to your neighbor and not just sit around not giving a shite.
You're lucky you have a nice neighbor and not someone who would have just solved it on their own with some laced hamburger meat.

leave a note on the neighbor's door that says you have talked to the dog about his barking, and he has assured you that he will try and not be so loud.

I agree with everyone saying you are the problem and not your neighbor. Quit being a douche bag and control your dog.
I had a dog in the yard next to me that barked all the time and it was incredibly annoying and would wake up my young kids. Luckily their house was foreclosed on and I have a new neighbor who isn't trashy now.
