It's more than a meal!!! It's a nice gesture by a citizen to say "Thank you for your service" to people who sacrifice every day to keep us safe.

The way I see, these guys are right in the middle of a big political fight and they really have no idea who's on their side, supporting them, wishing them well...

I am federal govt. LEO. We have a travel card and get per diem when on travel. We don't have to itemize meals. You can't buy alcohol with your govt. card and you only have to save receipts for meals over $75.
I'm sure they would be honored, but ethics won't allow them to accept. However, if they don't know in advance then nothing they can do to refuse. I would just give the server an extra big tip in that situation, if someone paid my bill.
