my brother in law had a dodge ram in the 80's with 357K miles when he gave it to his brother.
Then he got lucky. For every guy like him, there are 4 more that regretted buying a dodge.

Couldn't be because the history has proven that the trucks are among the most reliable vehicles in production.
My Tacoma was great, but it just didn't have enough room for car seats for my liking.

I have a 2003 yoda truck (tundra). Bought it used 10 years ago. 170k+ miles on it. Never needed any work... Drives me across the causeway every day for work no problem.

Get a Colorado.
The Tacoma is basically the same truck they've been selling for over a decade but with an uglier front clip.

They still sell it with one of these:
So yea, it's worth it. Pedaling through the gears in 4wd, especially 4 lo, is really damn fun.

Or better choose Ford F-150 or Chevy Colorado?
I'd go this route....in particular, a Colorado with a Duramax Diesel engine.

That would be a ringing endorsement, if only it were true.

My Tacoma is immeasurably better than my Sierra was.

But the answer here is the Canyon if you're going that route. That thing is beautiful. You mentioned the f150 though, so I really have no idea what you're looking for.

What year for each?
2007-2009 GM stuff had issues. Hubs, door handles, door locks.
Pretty stout drivetrains, though.

I have 2008 tacoma pre-runner. Runs perfectly and I have had zero issues. They retain a very high resell value as well.

The fanboys of every single brand claim this.
I've put 200,000 miles on a Chevrolet truck without issues and well over 100,000 on a Nissan without issues.
Toyota's got real competition these days.

My GM was a 2006. Same exact Delco stereo that was in my 1988 Blazer. Transmission had to be replaced on my dime around 60k (I think, maybe earlier). The damn thing up shifted and downshifted all of the damn time on the interstate, I had the V6 since it was a regular cab regular bed truck...no big though. I did replace the front hubs as well. I'd probably still be driving it if my parents didn't want me to sell it to them for my nephew. I'd say it was solid for a $15k truck.
My Tacoma was $30something k and is amazing. My only problem is a squeaky clutch pedal.

No doubt an excellent truck.
Let us know where your at when it hits 100K.
My general opinion is that domestic quality has improved and Toyota has dropped.
As engineer, you know why I say this, everybody uses the same supplier pool, for the most part.
Less cost= more defects.
Higher cost= less defects.

You're right...Tacoma is midsized but I'm actually cross shopping the two trucks. I'm looking at a 16 Taco 4Dr V6 TRD but for similar money you can get a full size '15 F150 XLT Sport 4 Dr with a v8! While on the pricey side, I see the Taco with better long term reliability & resale but it's hard to beat the larger Ford especially in same price range

Buy a Tacoma for its reliability and resale vale above all else; this is assuming you want a compact truck. People will try and say this and that about aesthetic comparisons, but there truly are no comparisons, it has the best resale out of any vehicle out there, and has much more proven reliability over the GM twins (although I am partial to both those vehicles). with the 4x4 models, it can tackle just about anything you can throw at it, assuming you aren't towing anything ridiculous.
They still feel a bit big at times, but manageable. It does nothing to blow your socks off, but if you are looking for a vehicle that won't let you down, has a truck bed and good clearance, don't talk yourself out of it.
I am the owner of a 2015 I have had for 3 months. I think it is the definition of a utility vehicle, and very comforting that I can get rid of it at a minimal loss at any point in time.
The 2016's look good, I preferred the 2015, and had much more bargaining power given the end of the model.

JD Power awards are bought and sold. Just like "north american truck of the year".
Posted on 11/5/15 at 10:30 am to Madthedrifter
ANY year Tacoma or Tundra is worth it.

Any facts to back that up?
