I have a Vietnamese dude that lives up the street from me that does this to all his neighbors. He just likes to work. Seriously. Coolest dude ever.

Red is the color of luck for the CNY.
One way they celebrate is give cash in red envelopes.
You don't want to just be handing out cash. But, since he appears to like yardwork give him a red envelope with a home depot gift card.
Or maybe a pick up receipt for lawn bags (since he picked up the leaves). It's the red envelope and something of material value that matters; it promises prosperity through good luck.
Could go deeply religious and do some ancestor worship with a pickle jar of home made napalm if he's southern Chinese.
