East Tennessee is full.
For real though, definitely have been happy moving this way from Baton Rouge.

ETA: if you have school age kids move to Johnson City within city limits north east side.
Kingsport city is fine also but there’s a huge chem plant that dominates the city.
Bristol is smaller with a NAScar track and a new casino
And if youre a lefty, take your arse right down 26 to Asheville. Don’t need that ruining this area too
ETA2: food here sucks. Trade off I guess for beautiful area with low crime, low taxes, and good public schools

As long as you aren't in Cocke County it isn't terrible. The mountainous counties obviously are a little cooler of blount Cocke green Sevier and on up towards Bristol. Has some great fishing basically everywhere in the area and lots of things to do if you are an outdoorsy family.

It is one of my possible retirement locations.

I'm sure it's beautiful country but your two pictures of six rocks with water flowing between them doesn't really sell it.

Excellent place to score some Clandestine Craft Whisky.

I’ll be honest, I don’t like the Tri-Cities area very much.
Southwest Virginia is great, though.

Do it. That area is the best part of the great state of Tennessee. Norris lake isn't far and you can't find clearer lake water in the south.

i-26 is open to cars but not to large trucks. I-40 was reopened one lane each way, and then a freak rain storm last week flooded the road (way above the river at the bottom of the hills. They are expecting it to reopen in a week or so.
If you have questions about Grainger and Union and Jefferson Counties, I may be able to help.

Are you in Louisiana? If so, TN is a significant improvement.
Posted on 6/24/25 at 9:28 pm to LSUFootballFANATIC
