Used it alot. I also used to connect to AOL via my ISP since AOL's local access nodes sucked.

Or it could be you're just as intelligent as your username indicates.

GOAT messenger
False. Yahoo Messenger directly tied into Free Yahoo Personals in the late 90s to ~2002 was THE GOAT. 15 yrs ahead of Dating Apps in terms of real time communicating and hooking up.

I think you've got your generations wrong if you think AIM was a boomer thing.

Not gonna lie I thought boomer just meant old.

While we got our first computer in 1994 or so, I didn't really play around on the internet that much until we got rid of dial-up and switched to cable around late-02/early-03. Before that time it really wasn't practical for me to use because it was too slow. I spent much of my time outside playing with friends or over at a friend's house playing NCAA or GTA on PS2.

I've spent the last 15 minutes coming up with a witty away message and I got nothing

I used the hell out of it!

Pretty sure not many 60-70+ year old people have ever used AIM.
You do understand that Boomer is short for Baby Boomer Generation? AKA born in the late 40’s-late 50’s?
What the hell are they teaching in school now?

I used to frick with AIM pretty hard back in the day. It was awesome during that time.
I'm also 28 and I would say I don't really feel that old yet.

Tell you what AOL had that I really enjoyed back in the day, and that was chat rooms.
People could have profiles (most people did not yet have digital cameras and pics). There were chats for most major cities. In my city's chat I said hello briefly to a young lady a couple times. We set up a truly blind date, not knowing what each other looked like. She told me where to meet and what she would be wearing. When I arrived at valet parking there was a car ahead of me and out of it stepped a young lady wearing the described outfit. She was gorgeous. Needless to say I nearly ran inside. Turned out she had been named "Most Photogenic" in a Miss USA contest. What were the odds?

my username was my AIM screen name and it is missing letters and various bullshite because AIM had a 16 character limit.

No problem, just post some song lyrics that make you sound deep.

Gen X
I think most boomers missed AOL. I'm an early 70's baby gen X and neither me nor my friends used IM to communicate. I don't think "boomers" were largely represented on the internet until facebook became a thing.
I worked in tech in the late 90s/early 2000s. I used IM at work but not in my personal life. I don't think IM was even really a thing for most Gen Xers.
I was in my early 30s when text messages started. I still remember my first text message - "Call." It took five minutes to punch in 4 characters and I never would have never imagined then that "texting" would become my primary medium for communication. I still prefer that friends call rather than text but know I'm in the minority when it comes to text/call.
