My position has always been I don't care if an employee leaves. They aren't slaves.
I'll just find someone to replace them.

Whether or not you or I agree with it, our company has a policy in place that states no employee can use company equipment or property for their personal use. All of our communication systems such as voice mail, e-mail, computers or internet access should be utilized to conduct business only. She was made aware of this policy, as are all of our employees, at the time she receive her new employee orientation packet.
Well then that should be your beef. Not her lying to you.
Did you mention that in your OP?

I just want to know if you have proof she did this on company time or if she took the laptop home?

You don't want to retain your talent?

She is under no obligation to tell you the truth if she is seeking another employment.
quote:Agree. Also doesn't sound like he's as approachable as he claims others have said.
If you had to resort to calling her out 3 times and then confronted her with a letter, she is obviously not comfortable with approaching you
Will,SHE lied, you're here putting her business out after covert activity in securing her letter...sounds like the whole bunch is untrustworthy.
Oh, and how many times you hit dat?

Only when they would lie to me about doing something that I told them to do. Had one girl keep telling me she was too busy and she was sitting on her arse.
I don't do much more than bitch. Just gets on my nerves

I am the talent in my department unfortunately. Every other position is entry level or someone I had to cultivate.
There was nobody there when I got hired. So I really don't care.
I only have 4 employees though.

Prior to clicking on the Word document, if you scroll the mouse over it, the file will display the date and time created. I can also - if I wanted to - verify this with IT as to when she logged into the computer.
If laptop were provided to her, which one isn't, our policy states that all conduct and systems must be restricted to business only.

Never. I make it a point to never insinuate that I dip my pen in the company ink.

If the activity isn't excessive, disciplining for this is the equivalent of writing a ticket for going 36 in a 35.

So you had to scour the company handbook to find a reason to write her up? You sound like an incredible defender of company resources.

Unfortunately, there are other issues that I am having with this employee that I purposely left out of this conversation.
I am hopeful with the right coaching, she can change for the better.
