I was lucky. Flight school at NAS Pensacola and NAS Whiting Field was great. Then stationed on the west coast at MCAS Tustin in Orange County, CA. Enjoyed them both.

Norfolk and that area is ghetto as frick.
Was there 75-77 and it was getting pretty run down back then. What a view from Ocean View.
Doubt I would recognize anything around there today.

My favorite post was Ft. Belvoir, VA
I went to AIT there in 92 from September to December. That place was great.

Both it and Hood require monthly blood sacrifices to appease it.

So far? NIOC Colorado in the Denver/Aurora area. Beautiful scenery. Hiking in the summer, skiing in the winter, and the command was chill as all get out.

Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point. I wasn't air wing so mostly ran bs security and PT'd. Good fishing. Everyone else hated it.

I’ve seen a couple of y’all say Hood was your worst, but I enjoyed it and Benning. Never gets brain numbing cold when you’re in the field, and there’s plenty of stuff to do within an easy drive.
My favorite was a little base outside of Stuttgart though. That’s probably the prettiest city I’ve ever visited. Christmas there is just incredible.

Camp Schwab, Okinawa
We were 1 of like 4 units on the entire base. Northernmost camp on the island and maybe 300 Marines there full-time. As an NCO, it’s what I imagine being a Jr. Officer would be like on a big base. It was awesome. Rock climbed, snorkeled in world class environments, did things with a completely badass unit, conducted all the trainings you can ask for, etc.
It’s isolated. Winter there is basically just a monsoon season, so I used to watch the heavy rains fall outside my window, into the open ocean and watch the big waves the wind pushed in. Epic & tranquil at the same time. Hard to explain that level of tranquility. No cell phone. Family on a different sleep pattern. No girlfriend bc I broke it off before going. Just basically time to read, train, and a lot of introspection.
Small town outside the base and you’re not surrounded by 1000 Marines in every bar. When we’d go to one of the bars, there’d be only a handful of guys from each other unit so completely reasonable. Taco rice is a GD godsend btw.
