I don't know what happened to traffic enforcement in Houston over the last 2 years; these are areas where I was traditionally scared to speed.

I've only lived in Houston a short time so I don't have much to compare, but I'm consistently amazed at the blatant red light running in this city. It's not just a random car, but a pack of cars will run through red lights for 3 full seconds. Everywhere. Neighborhoods, frontage roads, busy high/low traffic. It's almost as if it's not illegal here.

Shouldn’t you be making tofu chili and posting your 7BD?

That is, sidewalks and other walking features were better in minority neighborhoods, while grafitti/aesthetics were worse.

There was a news story and some new big project announced in Houston a few weeks ago. The "obstructions?" Mostly dumped trash and vandalism.

The only difference between culverts in poor neighborhoods and nice neighborhoods was maintenance by the residents. I'd be embarrassed to be one of the po' fokes interviewed on camera crying about how nobody ever comes and picks up the trash in front of THEIR OWN DAMNED HOMES.

There's a reason we don't go right away when the light turns green.

But there was a change in policy for traffic enforcement during the covid lockdowns. Never got back to normal. Specifically, there were places on my normal routes where I always slowed down because I knew HPD patrol cops staked out in regular spots. That hasn't been the case for the last couple years. I guess the good news is that I make better time.

Almost every week on here there is a post about speeding in neighborhoods and crashes. Its people driving faster and more distracted in bigger vehicles that make it harder to see blind spots. And frankly, just more reckless driving.

We literally today had someone who was driving down our main road who hit our neighbor's mailbox (demolished it), trash can (also demolished), and clipped our mailbox before they got back onto the road. Came all the way up onto the sidewalk. Hit it so hard that debris hit me in the back all the way up in our yard while I was weeding our porch flower bed. And part of their fender was in the neighbor's front yard, but they just kept fricking going.

We have a school bus stop right next to our house and at dismissal have kids walk down the sidewalk right in front of our house. Would've easily hit one of those kids if it was during that time.

I see a lot more pedestrians now than I used to, and not the kind walking for exercise. Also on ratchet bikes and one guy that tools around on a motorized skateboard. Riding lawnmowers were a thing for a while but I guess the cops cracked down on them. Used to just about everybody could afford some kind of vehicle but even a hoopty is out of reach for a lot of them now.

Too many assholes with their heads buried in their cellphones walking down the street not paying attention.

Darwin Award recipients.
