Bbq, maybe. Tex Mex isn’t special and is on every corner everywhere these days.

Strongly disagree. Tex-Mex outside of Texas isn't the same. More specifically the Austin-SA corridor is the sweet spot

Whole hog pit cooked BBQ is disgusting? Hummm???? Interesting. And you realize that there are AT LEAST 3 types of BBQ in NC...

Vinegar based BBQ should be considered a hate crime.

Wait, you’re angry people decided to eat the food delivered specifically for them at an industry conference where they can more easily network and meet people from that particular industry, as opposed to going off site and away from their entire purpose of being there?

I started my work career where OP is at and I am here currently for work travel. I am most interested in maximizing work time on travel. I did the local cuisine thing for years on work travel nights. It gets old and I just don’t like going over per diem into my own money for work travel dining now.

Plus alcohol usually comes out and that is a whole other mess I just don’t want to deal with as a manager with subordinates.

What’s up with nowadays people bragging about eating local or exploring when they travel? This is something people have naturally done since beginning of man, and now all of a sudden it’s something people brag about. Millions do it everyday

But I'm so unique!

If I were at a conference in Corpus Christi or Laredo, I would definitely try the local food. In Austin, not so much.

I like testing out "cajun" restaurants in areas outside Louisiana just to see how near or far from the mark they hit.

There is always a VOODOO or CAJUN pasta that is just a sloppy bowl of separated cream sauce w some cayenne pepper and seriously off texture bell peppers thrown in. always

What would you think the local cuisine of a place the size of Austin is?

They have some of the highest rated BBQ places in the world and a pretty solid restaurant scene.

Did you see Jacob Frey dining on a bowl of Somali crap?

Spent a long time moving the same mouthful around in his mouth and trying to not puke.

If I don't know what it is; I ain't eating it. I tried Rocky mountain oysters and they were blah.

I’ll bite. Sometimes on work trips I don’t have time to venture out and I just have to eat somewhere around the hotel.

Don’t care what reason I am in Austin. Will not leave without eating the Beef Rib at Terry Blacks.

Diarrhea could be the least of your problems.

You could wind up in a hospital in New Delhi needing emergency dialysis.
