you mean people who didn't have the the option of being lazy and handing the kid a flashing screen so they had to, you know, parent? yeah...they don't have any relevant experience and should sit this one out
Distractions that were "lazy" existed for that generation too.

I wonder if these same judgemental bitches say the same thing about coloring books, action figures, toy cars, etc...?
Of course, parent of the year with the 6 and 2 year old having polite family discussions about current worldy events not withstanding

as long as they can color or eat the golf tees at Cracker Barrel quietly, I'm good

As parents, that's what we do. Give them distractions to keep them quiet, because mommy and daddy would like to eat out every once in a while and not have to clean dishes.
Whether it's an iphone or a matchbox car, it's the same damn thing.

I really like seeing kids out with their family because even if they aren't being perfect, they're learning. Plus, IDK how families with little kids made it through covid with sanity intact. Dinners out are much deserved and a semblance of normal times IMO.

How am I supposed to ignore my family and play on my phone if the kids don't have their own phones to play on
I’m traveling for work, so it’s just me. But good observation.

How old are your kids?

My kids are still at the age that I enjoy interacting with them, but they are also young enough that when overtired or really hungry that are miserable little shits. So, I have on occasion done the phone thing because the people around me didn't earn these trophies. But it has been rare occasions when we've had to do it, typically long road trips or long days at the playground
We avoid giving our son (3 y.o. now) a phone until he's getting belligerent or bored. He turns into a hellion when he's too hungry.
Most often, we sit down and immediately order something for him to eat, and he's usually done eating by the time adult food comes.. And after a while of sitting and playing with crayons or whatever, he gets bored and wants to start running around, bothering people, hollering, etc. So we just turn on a show until we're done.

I have kids. It's fricking lazy. Be a damn parent and teach them how to interact politely in public without a flashing screen.
100% agree as a parent of two boys 3 and 5 years old. I know I shouldn't be, but I'm surprised by the amount of posters in here who seem to do this themselves with the "wait until you have kids" comments.

My child, and my nieces and nephews are all newborns incapable of talking.

Cool so you have no practical experience with raising children. Got it.

They are lazy, and think that once I have kids (already there) I will be just like them.

Maybe, or it could be that I’ve read at least one book in my life.
