Out of that list I would go
El Paso
San Antonio
Houston
Otherwise, I would probably find a small town or rural area. Not necessarily tied to any particular region of Texas with respect to small town or rural. I've found things I like about most of the areas there I have been.

Georgetown. Close enough to Austin but without the constant traffic.
San Antonio and El Paso are underrated cities.
If I was retired and didn't have to be close to anything I'd live in Alpine or Uvalde.

Where are you getting your information from?
Man, there is so much room in this head of yours.

And commute to SA?
New Braunfels is my pick too.
If we are talking places where you can't find jobs though, let's make It Fredericksburg or Mason.

Stay in Corpus unless you are coming to Alamo Heights or north of town...
Sort of wish I lived in Corpus.
t. San Antonio

Uvalde... Guessing you haven't visited in decades?
I would love to live there too, but it is no longer the town it once was. It could be nice again if San Antonio continues to spread out. Maybe people from in between San Antonio and there will start moving in and making it nicer.
