That's just what I have 20yr experience in. It would be an easy transition. I don't have any chemical experience.

I'm short off the tee, but I'm an ace when I'm within 10ft of the green and can just put toward the pin

Lets both go apply somewhere I know someone and you don't, let you have slightly better credentials, and see who gets hired.

Why is the washout rate so high? Do they know you still have to start close to the bottom when you don't know the unit.
Had a few quit because they thought they could just walk in and be a board operator.
Biggest thing I've seen is most are young and have no work ethic, they don't last long in a pay for performance environment. They want the money but not the work.

My buddy just got hired at Exxon as an operator like yesterday. He is a white dude with a Ptec and a couple years of experience.

Of course, if it's some podunk plant run with the good ole boy system and T-Boy made his way up to HR.
Go to the big names now where they don't care anymore who you know. It's changed tremendously.
Contractors, on the other hand, those jobs are all about some nepotism.

That's what I thought. Didn't want to assume.

You're lucky if you make manager around here in 25yrs. Plant is to small for a lot of movement.

Same here, we only have 4 operators who are fully qualified, my supervisor was here 25yrs before he made it....

It's about to get arse wild over here. We are going to staff two units with new 12 new people and the 12 we have, 3 of the 12 we have are less than 2yrs experience. I'm going in dry on this OT for the next 3yrs.
Posted on 6/3/17 at 3:56 pm to Pepe Lepew
It doesn't bother a lot of people to sit in the same job for more than 2-3 years? After that I'm ready for promotion or something else.
If I start feeling stagnant it's time to go.

u serious?
Yep. In most of our plants (or units as other places call them) you have to learn the outside jobs first then move to the board. I spent 1 1/3 years qualifying on 3 outside jobs then went to the board. I learned two board jobs before the red diamond bought us. After they eliminated 1 outside job and let people go I never worked outside and was adding a third board before I took a day job.
