Marine Corps vet, banker, MBA, voting for Trump actually. I see freaks and homeless every day because I work in one of those big tall skyscrapers in a big city that you're so intimidated by.... You sound like an insecure retard and gay IMO.

Oakland can be dangerous and has a bad rap, but it's actually a pretty cool place to live and lots of people are moving there. It's very desirable for younger people too. People in SF and Berkeley often go to Oakland to party. And you could take the subway into SF if you want.

Nah we are only about 12% of the population in SF. Rest of the 88% are much more to be concerned about.

How's the LSU alum organization there? I just looked it up and it looked like a really well ran organization.
Hoping to get an offer tomorrow and start the official planning. Going to be a hell of an experience. Really pushing my comfort zone.

You'll realize how how much life is really out there. Congrats. Go have an adventure.

The SF area is awesome but unfortunately this is a well known fact and thus demand for property is through the roof which makes it too expensive for a regular guy like myself.

I think it's hilarious how much hate California gets on here from the good ole baws. It's definitely a big change from living in the South, but 39 million people live out there for a reason.

You might want to consider going east to San Ramon, Dublin, Pleasanton or Livermore. The commute to and from work will be less than 1/2 hour, and you can't imagine better suburban living. 580 and 680 give you quick access to the entire Bay Area, San Joaquin Delta, Gold Country and Sierra Nevada.
I grew up in Livermore. It was easy to get to San Francisco, Palo Alto, Berkeley or even Santa Cruz to go see live music any night of the week. It was also easy to get to the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta for boating and the Sierra Nevada foothills for camping.

Do not live in Oakland, its a cesspool.
Alameda Island is great if you can afford it. No traffic in Alameda. You can take a ferry from Alameda to SF and avoid the Bay Bridge traffic. There is a tunnel and a couple of bridges that connect Alameda to Oakland. There is an outdoor mall and restaurants on the east side of Island. The area next to the tunnel entrance (west side) is starting to build up with shopping and restaurants.
Walnut Creek and Pleasant Hills are much more affordable, family friendly, and far enough away from the stench of Oakland.
SF is a great city to explore. So much to do in Northern CA. You will be in driving distance from Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, and several redwood state parks. Plus beaches and the Pacific Coast Highway. LA is about a 5 hr drive.

can't believe you left off the prevalence of Mormons out there.
Dublin and Livermore could be decent choices if you have limited resources for housing.

Alameda is great for the reason already listed, but it ain't cheap. The best thing about alameda is that it doesn't seem like the rest of the congested cramped east bay, almost seems like a separate town. Walnut creek, Pleasanton, San Ramon are also expensive, but that's the entire Bay Area in general. Oakland gets a bad rap, but there are some nice and safe places in Oakland. Oakland really just depends on the part of the city you live in, it does have some really good restaurants and nightlife. If you need any specific info on alameda I could help

I was out there for about a week when I realized why people from all over go there and never leave.
Yes it's expensive, yes sometimes the politics out there make you scratch your head. But damn living out there was worth every bit all that.
It really made me understand just how closed minded and clannish people from here can really be. Was an eye opener for someone who grew up taught to think like south Louisiana was the center of the universe.

I love it how all the people who live there or near the area say it's great, but those who have never lived there say it's awful because of liberals.

Got a friend or someone with a 1bed guesthouse they want to rent out?
Posted on 2/29/16 at 10:02 pm to kolache king
Nope, but there are tons of Victorian houses here that rent out rooms or guesthouses.
