Emergency Management of the Adult Female Rape Victim
Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Guidefor some more light reading if you were interested.
quote:
The physician's function is not to determine if rape has occurred. Rape is a legal term, not a medical term; whether a crime has been committed is to be determined by the courts.(2,6)The physician's responsibilities in an alleged rape involve the following: 1) documentation of pertinent history, (2) careful physical examination, (3) prompt treatment of physical injuries, (4) psychologic support and arrangements for follow-up counseling, (5) collection of legal evidence, (6) prevention of venereal disease and (7) prevention of pregnancy, if desired by the patient.
Emergency Department Management
On arrival at the emergency department, the patient should be ushered to a private, quiet, comfortable area. The patient's consent should be obtained before beginning the history and during each phase of the physical examination and collection of evidence.(2,7,8)

I understand a males sensitivity to the subject, I just wasn't prepared for the attitude of disbelief. I do understand this nurse didn't know me from any other person, and I am sure he sees a lot of bullshite.
As evidenced by posts in this thread, some people just don't understand why a rape victim wouldn't file charges. I assume that this nurse was more surprised by your previous answer than unfeeling and it came out in his question.
I personally couldn't see a nurse so cold as to sit there and not have sympathetic feeling towards a woman that claims she's been raped.

So this guy is still out running around raping people? I am confused. Why do some report rape then refuse to press charges. I think that's why the attendant was confused at the hospital.
I wasn't reporting a rape. I was seeking medical treatment for any shite he may have given to me.

I was on anti-AIDS meds for a month, got shot up full of penicillin, etc. It SUCKED.
i was going to ask you earlier about this stuff. did you have pregnancy fears for a bit? i've heard that's common

So, as someone who just internally deals with shite, it was hard to reach out for help and be met by such an ugly attitude. I get it, but it still sucked.
well i'm not the best person (because i am an extreme outlier), but it's over. it happened, you can't ever fix that, but you're alive, apparently (hopefully) healthy, and what some person did to you doesn't say anything about you

You seem to be dealing with it well. Has it affected any of your male relationships?

Just a couple more paragraphs from your link:
Apparently some questions are asked. They aren't just there to do a medical examination.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find "Table 1".
quote:
The questions asked while the history is being taken should not be judgmental, moralistic or opinionated.(8) victims of sexual assault may believe they caused the assault. They need to be reassured that they are victims and that what has happened was not their fault.(7)
Some patients may feel that questioning is a further invasion of their privacy and may be resistant; others may welcome the chance to express their feelings. The physician's questions should be specific, especially when they refer to details that the victim might be too embarrassed to mention.(9) Important historical points to elicit are outlined in Table 1.

and like i said. i'm an outlier. but you seem somewhat similar in mindset to me. shite happens. you learn a lesson and move on. i don't believe in constantly re-living experiences and living in a victim mentality because it creates a cycle of showing signs of being a victim and attention
also our memories fade and die. forcing yourself to re-live things over and over not only attempts to stop this from occurring, but it also leads to you creating a new memory that doesn't reflect what actually happened, and if you live in a state of victimhood, the new memory will be shaded the same way
i'm a child of abuse. i get super pissed at people who grew up in abusive situations as a crutch 20 years later. bad shite happened. it wasn't due to you. you survived. you move on, learn, and grow outside of what random, negative occurrence happened

I'll respectfully ask again Ms. 18LSU,
I believe you were raped. Does your rapist know that he raped you?

the survivor mentality. Sadly, not everyone has such an inclination.

I don't behave differently towards men. This was something one man did, and I am able to compartmentalize his actions. It would be unfair and detremental to me to hold this as a grudge against men. The only difference I have noticed is that I am much more aware of EVERYONE around me, not just the people I am interacting with.
