Probably. My grandad flew crop dusters out of South Bay. He used to buzz the house when he was ready for breakfast and my grandma would drive us out to Terry's truck stop and he'd land behind it and come in and eat. Then one of us kids would ride with him the rest of the day.

I know the area has a deservedly bad rep but I have nothing but great memories.

Yep. When you own a car, an iPhone, have air conditioning, basic healthcare, indoor plumbing, reliable electricity, etc, you're not really poor. Ironically, our poorest people are somehow 350 pounds.

And so how about the million or more living in tents, who have none of these things?

Most of the tent dwellers in San Diego and Austin have phones.

Poverty is real. The real issue is many are white senior citizens living on a set income like SS, that are told you earn to much to qualify for help. Like EBT for groceries, or assistance with heating and cooling utility bills. Meanwhile our government gives away millions to illegals, welfare to those capable of working but choose to not to, subsidized housing by way of Section 8, etc. To many people getting help that don't need it, but denying it to those that do need it.

They just need to show the word poverty at the top of a slide show.

Then go country by country and show a picture or 24 of the impoverished parts of each.

No one in America is truly poor.

Poverty in the United States is equated with a lack of cash income but people who are poor typically get SNAP, Medicaid, subsidized housing, heating assistance, free school breakfasts and lunches for their kids, etc.

They are poor by American standards. Can’t compare “poverty” in the US to “poverty” to some third world shithole like India. What kind of thought process is this called, baws?

No we aren't a third world nation, but it doesnt change the fact of poor areas like Appalachia and many indian reservations are, or giving away billions in foreign aid to countries that hate America, or the billions in ebt, welfare, section 8, crazy checks etc given to many undeserving of it. All the while the working class gets their SS funds and Medicare premiums stolen by Congress. Then Congress calls these two programs entitlements and claim their going broke.

It's because they have stolen the funds and not put them back as required by law. We're entitled to every dollar paid in, taken from our earnings. J6 was nothing compared to the day that Congress fails to payout SS and Medicare to those that paid it in. Armed militias will descend on DC and it wont matter who's a D or R that day.

I absolutely can compare them and I am.

You got lucky to be born here and you sound like a schmuck thinking like this.

The million or more you mention are there by choice. If you are poor in this country, 95% of the time it's due to your bad choices or work ethic.

The people living in tents are drug addicts and refuse to go to shelters because that requires them to get clean. Let's not act like the people living in tents are there because, gosh, they got laid off at the plant and lo and behold they ended up in that condition.

Poverty here now is having an iPhone 12 . Very few are actually going hungry and completely destitute

I've seen people with phones that are actually pretty destitute. I don't know where the idea that having a cell phone means you have a great life comes from. You can't live in a cell phone.

No, but you can live without a $900 smart phone with an unlimited data plan.
