St. James Episcopal Day School
I've heard a couple of good reports about this place.

St James pre-K4 is like real school for the kids. Structured learning, we were very happy with the experience. Plus you'll get invited to all the classmates bday parties that are usually held at Bocage, BRCC, CCL, etc where you can day drink at the bar for a couple hours.

Baton Rouge is a sewer. Move to Livingston or Ascension.

Was pleasantly surprised with Family Christian Academy on Bluebonnet. Very nice staff and teachers. Relatively affordable. My kids had fun and learned a lot. They were well prepared for pre-k and kindergarten at St. George.

Trinity is good. University Methodist is a good option. Both schools seem to get a bunch of kids into UHigh for kindergarten.

U High? What age do they start?

The Catholic preschools are good
Fundamentals out in Central is good, too
I like the concept of Montessori for that age but I’m not familiar with the schools in BR
ETA: St. James and Trinity are both very good schools, too.

What? I'm not sure I know of any kindergarten program that requires a child that age to be able to read after coming out of pre-school.

Mine went to Most Blessed Sacrament and ACS Montessori school. Both will be at MBS next year.

You can add St. Luke's in there as well. It really depends on the location. St James is a good school, but it's only convenient if you are near downtown. Trinity is perfect if you live near Southdowns, LSU, Garden District, etc. St. Luke's is right by Airline and Goodwood so it's convenient to Old Goodwood, Tara, Broadmoor, etc

If you are close to Hoo Shoo Too, use Corban Early Learning Center. Then Parkview

Just be aware, U High is very woke these days.

Sadly, you basically are required to hold your kid back to get into lab school and even then, many don’t.
By some work of miracle, one of my best friends got her little girl in for next year with zero connections.. but all of the kiddos are being held back and repeating K. Didn’t get in for 1st grade.
I mentioned St James earlier, but I hear just as great things about Trinity. Sounds like you can’t go wrong with any Episcopalian school. They’re like $8k for PreK, however.

That’s more than double the Catholic school in the area pre-k rates

Really depends on your budget and what environment you want your kid in. All of the schools people listed are great. If you’re looking for a place that’s not super religious, I’d say episcopal is your best bet. They’ve become very much religious-in-name-only over the past few years. But if you’re Catholic, any of the Catholic schools will be fine. Dunham is also great, but very religious and that has been a big deterrent for some families. Any private school is really fine. Public schools are dog shite, so if you want that you might have to move to a different parish

We had an excellent experience at Most Blessed Sacrament for Pre-K.
