Just know that it's tough, but don't go through the struggle just to relapse again. I quit cigs 6 months ago and it was rough but after a couple weeks, the sun is brighter again.

I've been dipping for 40 years. I've "quit" many times, but never could make it permanent. I mean, I would freaking dream about it every night. Made it for almost six months once. Caved while drinking that time. Now I limit myself to one dip per day, after supper. I move it all around my mouth to minimize the damage. Good luck!

visit oncology ward.
now that you are resolved to quit:
drink plenty of fluids.
get a massage.
take hot shower or bath.
lots of fruit. flush out your system.

My dad dipped for well over 25 years, quit cold turkey while stationed in Afghanistan Christmas day. He always had wintergreen dip so he just bought insane amounts of wintergreen gum and sacked up and did it. That was about 10 years ago and he still tells me he thinks about it occasionally. On a bad note, he did put on a little weight at first, he impulsively ate random shite like chips and jelly beans just out of habit of having something to do.
Edit:
Edit:

Does Chantix work for dipping/chewing as well?

I moved to e cigs whenever I would get a craving like after a meal or when drinking and then eventually quit those. I had quit everything for almost a year but hunting season started and now I dip again

Punch yourself in the dick everytime you think about having a delicious, juicy pinch of Copenhagen wintergreen.

I used to dip for several years. The nicotine gum got me of the dip. The first few days really sucked. Don't drink any alcohol for a week or two. Find ways to keep yourself busy.

This is no shite. I tried that stuff and had some terrible nightmares. I had to quit taking it.

I decided one day I wanted to quit and just did it. Told myself I was stronger than the can. This was about 8 years ago and haven't touched it since. Hardest part was not dipping while doing yard work, playing golf, and driving. I don't even think about it now but wouldn't dare try again when offered.

A friend told me that he has dipped for 35 years and CANNOT quit. He told my boys the same thing but two continue to dip. Over 18 so it's on them..... I think it is a horrible addiction and will cost them long term..

You are addicted to nicotine. Nicotine is very addictive but it leaves your system pretty fast and withdrawal symptoms are very mild.
Read this book: Allen Carr's "easy way to stop smoking". It applies to all methods of ingesting nicotine (smoking cigs/gars/pipes, chewing, dipping, etc). This method has helped millions quit nicotine.
Chantix works but you experience very vivid dreams. The problem with Chantix methodology is that it requires you to use will power which leads to a high failure rate. Allen Carr's method is not about will power and has a much higher success rate.

I must not have an addictive bone in my body. I've dipped for 7 years now. I'll dip every day for 3 months then not even think about buying a can for 2 months.
For everyone mentioning jaws being cut out...how often does this happen? I know more people irl who have died of lung cancer due to smoking than I have ever heard of having their jaw cut out. That goes for celebrities as well. I played baseball until I was 22, and don't know a single person who has ever had mouth cancer.
I'm not scoffing at it, I'm genuinely curious about just how dangerous dipping is.

Same here... I know several people that died from lung cancer, but never heard of anyone I know getting cancer directly related to dipping.

quote:This is probably the case for many, even if they don't know it. For me, it's all about a routine. Used to dip the entire time a was on a baseball field. Some days that was 8+ hours. Got released, and the amount of time a dipped per days was shattered. Used to dip when I drove. Figured it was too much so I stopped dipping when I drove. I've now dissociated driving with dipping.

quote:Is it because mouth cancer is easily detectable? Each time I go to the dentist I explain that I dip and get them to thoroughly examine everything.
