TRL was appointment viewing 20 years ago, and would have absolutely no reason to exist today

How we amuse ourselves has shifted a ton in the past decade

Honestly, I much prefer being able to instantly type it in a search bar and pull up any video/cover/lyrics etc to any song I want as opposed to sitting and watching a TV and hoping the DEeJay plays the one I want

I don’t know. There was something about hearing the first few notes to that song you had been waiting to hear come over the radio or running into the video store on a Friday evening and seeing the tape box behind the movie/game you wanted that just isn’t there with the instant gratification we have now.

Instant gratification made this country soft.

I also liked seeing Madonna crawl on that bed in the "Get Into The Groove" video (could not find gif)

I barely remember her Into the Groove video. Always liked the song.

She was hot in "Like a Virgin."

I hated Jim Nasium on WFMF for always fricking up my attempted recordings of songs from the radio for my mix tapes.

I still watch metal videos on YouTube.

The good music went overseas.

I always liked to watch the introduction to Soul Train.

But then my older brother and I would have to be ready change the channel quickly just in case Daddy walked in.

Funny story. MTV had a contest called Garage Band or something like that. These bands would send in tapes and if chosen, or won from public input, MTV would sponsor their tour. Anyway this band who won was scheduled to play a dive bar here. Well lo and behold watching MTV and they show their upcoming dates and here's this bar we frequented downtown that holds maybe 100 people on MTV. Good times.

Did anyone see (during the 30th anniversary) the real
Time airchecks that mtv2 played of the first few hours on the air? They had dead air (probably from those old Ampex quad cart machines) full spot sets, promos, etc all in crude stereo. It was very cool.
