I used to wait tables and generally tip whenever I am served. If I serve myself, I do not. And, I never tip when I am uncertain who will get the tip or if I think the "tip" is really just the management giving me the "opportunity" to pay them a little more than the usual charge.

Fine, but we know they are paid less than minimum wage do its customary to do the right thing and cut out the middle man and pay them directly.
