You realize the a good bit of blacks at tiger land bars aren't students right? There is a lot of ghetto trash that doesn't belong there. And all the whites are upstanding gentlemen?

No, but it's a lot quicker to keep some of the trash, white or black, from getting in by keeping a dress code

Ive been to tigerland , and I have seen multiple times that a black guy (wearing polo shirt and khaki pants) got denied entry, when a white guy wearing the same exact thing got in.

Yeah, I'm headed to Athens this Friday night, then back to Baton Rouge for the game Saturday. The next weekend I might have to try Austin.

No, but that's not what this thread is about.
So not all the whites are good people, and not allt he blacks going there are good people, but they single out the blacks? That's the point you're making? I don't follow, honestly.

If you were to assume the OP is correct, what else would you call it?

The issue is not in being delusional and assuming the OP is correct. The issue is that the OP is NOT correct. The OP is someone looking for racism in our community to fit her agenda. I can turn anything I look at into a racist agenda if I look at it long enough and try to make an argument to make it racist

Fair enough. As I said, I couldn't speak to the correctness of it, and if it's not correct, I'd agree with you.

Though, we have a poster on this page saying he's specifically seen examples of this, so who actually knows what is really true here.

White people wearing all white shoes get denied too. I was a bouncer, I know this for a fact. A lot of those white people were trashy, so the dress code fit it's intended purpose

Because college kids in Baton Rouge can afford to take a trip to Austin or Athens whenever they want to go out

Then you and the black guy that didnt get in can drive to Athens and Austin every weekend. No one is stopping you.

The BR city bar isn't the biggest fan of black people. They're quick to tell black people no because of their clothes

You're kidding right. I'm guessing you haven't been there in the past 5 years?

I was with some friends, all white, and we were not allowed in City Bar. One girl was wearing a turquoise tank top that I guess was similar to a wife beater, not allowed in. Another friend was wearing black jeans, not allowed in, finally they said my jeans were too baggy, not allowed in. Even though I had been there before wearing those same damn jeans that I always wear, Levis 505s.

Same thing when the Office first opened. I had tennis shoes on, wasnt allowed in.

Btw I was in a fraternity at LSU, have zero tats and wear polos or button up shirts when I go out.

I had a buddy with white square-toe dress shoes, and he got denied a couple of times in Tigerland and Bogie's. Not every time though. They just told him to go change his shoes and come back

I strolled into Fred's and JL's a couple of times coming from the venue pool with board shorts, a white tee and sneakers and not a damn thing was said.

It also helps to cut out some fat gator tails out on the bar for staff and fellow patrons.

Because they tip well and spend tons of money.

If you can't afford a $1 tip per drink then you can't afford to go out.

if black kids are told they can't get into a bar because of their all white shoes, then white kids are allowed in with their all white shoes, then YES, why wouldn't you want the majority to change to accept the minority

allowing 1 group in with the flamboyant attire and not allowing another group in, that's the issue

The difference is that you can have white shoes, but not necessarily fit the demographic that they are trying to stop. As in, an urban culture may wear white AF1's, whereas a frat kid (that fits the bar culture) has some white Sperry's. Yeah, they're both white, but it's not the same demographic so they let one through. But it's against the rules and people get a flustered when they let the sperry kid through. Flamboyant is a general term, but if I said no "shiny" shirts, but someone came in from the gym in a reflective running shirt for a quick drink after a workout, that's obviously not what the intention of the rule was. It's not to let one group in and one out based on race. I do think the dress code is a bad idea, because you can have the person turned away screaming racism, because they let someone else in who broke the rules. But I don't think at a base level, it is wrong to segregate people based on their taste. As a business decision, one group with one taste will run off the other. Go with the one that is the majority (going to get you more money).

And you are right, I've become friends with people over time that dress in a way that I thought they were going to be the biggest douche ever. Was forced to get to know them and it was alright. But that is the exception to the rule.

And I know this is stereotyping, but it really noticeably happened. We used to go to JL's free drink Fridays every week. Mike's opened next door and drew a different crowd than JL's. Over time, that crowd started coming to JL's little by little. Meathead, gelled hair types. Fights in the bar and in the parking lot went through the roof. That's when they went strict on dress code and got those people were slowly pushed out and it went back to normal. The dress codes work. Are there great people who look like they fit that stereotype and unfairly get turned away....yes. But for the most part, it does help. It's not always about stopping people who don't have the same culture/style. But sometimes to stop those that they've noticed caused trouble.

No, and that's why the dress code tries to keep them out along with other things like requiring student ID.

ITS A PRIVATE BUSINESS! THEY CAN DENY WHOEVER THEY WANT!!

There are limitations on this. While a business can deny service to anyone, they cannot do so for impermissible reasons such as race, gender, disability, etc. Anyone with even a tiny little bit of knowledge of the history of the civil rights movement should know this.

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 is one of the most egregious assaults on liberty and the constitution.

This is an assumption to promote an agenda to call out the bars as racist. A couple of people have stated that they have seen a black person turned away even though they were wearing the same as a white person. I spent 3 days a week in BR bars on my 6 year college experience (I think those facts are related ), and never once saw that. Had many friends and fraternity brothers that bounced and tended bar and never heard of that. Did I see people turned away, hell yes. But they looked of a certain demographic. And to be completely honest, I saw wayyyyy more white people turned away, but I'll admit that was due to shear numbers so it doesn't really speak to this topic.
