The slide downhill began when the golf course was sold. The developer put up expensive homes that I can’t believe people bought. The grocery stores on Jones Creek Rd look like third world markets. Shenandoah has a “volunteer HOA” so few people pay dues. The first house on the right at the entrance looks like a crack house. My parents get out of there this week after 43 years.

I got pictures of when I was younger hanging with friends in Brandywine apartments.
It was an apartment complex that they sold off as Condo units back in the late 70’s.
It is a shame as it is too costly to tear down and went down so bad to repair it cost more than you will ever get out of it.
The area in the 70’s and early 80’s was close to Cortana Mall, if you worked downtown you could take Choctaw to work to avoid traffic, and close to happening area of town.
I think the bar by Albertsons was Floyd Browns as I only went there once. I am not 100% sure on that where it was or was it the bar on Airline near old Salisbury Dodge dealer.
Off Little John was Bobby Meadors Catfish House.
Woolco was near what was called Little Vietnam back then and Kmart was across the street.
The car dealers popped up and down Florida Blvd East back then. New Generation was at the corner of Sharp and Florida. It was a decent working middle class part of town.

Sherwood/Florida/Coursey/O’Neal quadrant is Black/White/Hispanic/Asian
So probably the most diverse area of BR.
Best food options too.

Wasn't there a Rax right around there too? Used to love that place when I was a kid

Someone on here once called the area around St. Thomas More "Little Saigon" and I think that is very accurate. As soon as you jump over Florida it's ghetto and hispanic.

Belaire area was going down in the early 80’s when I went to school there. All the duplexes and cheap apartments aren’t good for property values.

They had a Rax on Sherwood by I-12 near where Picadilly’s is. They might have had one on Florida Blvd which would have been closer to the Broadmoor Theater.
They had a Steak and Ale on North Sherwood behind gas station which is now a Walgreens.
They slapped up those apartments and duplexes fast. The larger brick homes across from Belaire were built around the time they built the Woolco.
Older neighborhood off little John was built when my parents moved to that area in the early 70’s from Hollywood Street in NBR.

When did the Monticello neighborhood go to shite? It’s been downhill for years but the flood finished off any chance it had.
I remember the awesome Christmas displays back in the day.

Had to be after the 90s. I grew up in Central and had a lot of friends that lived in there. It was awesome back in the day.
About 7-8 years ago I took my kid in there to see if there were any lights and there was basically nothing.

bucket list is to travel back in time to see the day the Brandywine Apartments opened
Red Oaks was my elementary school and we were at that park next door everyday.
It was much quieter before Brandywine. I have great memories of growing up there but I was gone by the mid 80's. Sherwood back then was one lane each way in that area. I remember riding a horse over there at Choctow at Sherwood as a kid. It was the country in regards to the rest of the city. Almost like the suburbs.
It's almost unrecognizable at this point and it's been a year since I was back

Park Forest was the older neighborhood.
Monticello was built in the late 70’s and some in the early 80’s.
My Uncle moved to Monticello after he sold his house in NBR and that was in the early to mid 70’s.
I cannot answer when it went down as I did not live here in the 90’s.
Uh oh a Red Oaks Raider like myself.
It was quieter before Brandywine.

Rax was in the area where Sound Warehouse, Fun Fair Park, etc. were.

It was still decent in the mid 90s when I graduated HS. So was Park Forest.

I worked at Rax on Sherwood before my father got transferred to California. They had one on Sherwood.
They had another one in BR I just do not know the exact location.

Grew up in BTR and it's sad to read about these areas that at one time were good places to live and raise a family. It will be very hard to undo what has been done to those areas.

Great Red Oaks memories.
The Rax was down Florida near Bon Marche. Across from Kornmeyers and Hoppers at one time
Eta: there was a Danvers roast beef over there too. Near Donmoor. Both rax and Danvers rocked

I grew up in Park Forrest, off of Toledo Bend, in the early 80s and it was a great family neighborhood, especially for Halloween, Christmas, etc. I used to ride my bike all over that neighborhood and new every street. I rode through there the other day and forgot how massive it actually is.
We bailed in 91 and moved to Central.
