They took the thing down in the 1950s to do some repair work apparently. I presume that was done without incident. Now Mitch, and his cast of clowns, can't figure out how to do this with 21st century equipment?

Those mats are bowing and sliding for that little excavator, there is no way they provide a steady base for the big crane is there?

And now they are dumping loose soil and mud under the pads to level them.
This is going to go one of two ways, neither end with the statue on the ground in one piece.

Someone send OSHA a piture of them lifting the pallet with the mini-excavator bucket while the workers throw timbers under it.

For those keeping track at home it looks like a Liebherr LTM 1090 (or close to it- could be 1100 up to 1300).
That doesn't have a 0-60 time listed but it does some mean burnouts.

The way this is going his huge bronze arse may be the last thing some of these guys see. Laugh all you want, I doubt these poor souls are.

I wonder if they still have records of the private donors who gave money to have these monuments built. Seems like their descendants would be able to sue the city.

do I have to say anything else?

Foundation of Louisiana is the private donor.

When's the last time Orleans public works or those that it contracted have done a competent job?
