In Warsaw Stalin built the largest and tallest building in the city called he palace of culture. The Polish people have it bc of what it stands for, the subjugation and enslavement by the Soviets of Poland. But they chose to leave it up, not as a money making tourist attraction, but to remember what happened so it doesn't happen again. Every time they see it they remember what Stalin did and every generation coming up gets to see it and learn about the history of it.

With the education system in NOLA in 10 years kids will not know who Lee was.

So you won't move because of the crime rate, the poor K-12 education, the natural disasters, and the limited job market. But taking down muh statues will be the trigger for some folks to move?

Priorities, I guess.

I've got to be getting trolled.

I never claimed this to be the reason. But every time you do something that serves no purpose to the general public and creates further division it wears people down.

And when that recruiter calls about that job offer in Nashville. You're listening to the conversation.

Know what jobs would have been available to them?

I'll give you a hint. The life expectancy and treatment at their "new" jobs, we're much worse than their "old" jobs.

But hey, they were gonna get paid!!

Mine workers would rather a paycheck than a bullwhip, but who am I to judge.

So now statues mean nothing?

Sounds good. I am sure you'll be in favor of ripping down MLK and Andrew Jackson too, correct?

If they decide to pull them down then go for it...a statue doesn't make history. I'm not going to all of a sudden forget MLK if there isn't a statue of him. If they start removing them from the history books then there is a problem

You still don't see the problem.

If these statues were taken down because it was offensive to remember what happened, then wouldn't reading about them in a public school be equally offensive? They need safe spaces to be free of such inconveniences.

The mayor claims no taxpayer money is being used to remove the monuments. He says a private donor is giving the city the money, presumably a match for the $600k public bid that was received. The mayor will not disclose the private individual who is issuing these funds. It could be Kim Jong Un for all we know.

But we know for a fact that NOFD employees are actually out there doing the work. So if they are getting paid by the city, which almost has to be the case as a matter of law, then the mayor is lying.

Although you are likely right, government payroll can have private money subsidizing the paychecks. Most PUD's and energy firms pay portions of government employees to do the regulatory work.

I believe it was John C. Calhoun? who came up with some idea of the states not having to abide by things that they disagreed with. Things like taxes, etc.

I forget why SC seceded exactly, but not everything was about slavery.

Nullification Crisis.

Calhoun was ready to take SC out of the Union in the 1830s. Those who want to take Jackson's statue down with the rest would do well to remember that he stopped that.

You can't have it both ways.

Well, you take Nashville, regardless. Just make sure there are no statues, and life will be grand!

This entire production is nothing more than Mitch Landrieu theater. His loyal subjects are just lapping it all up. The sad thing is that he will continue to use and abuse their support time and time again for his personal gain and they will have absolutely nothing tangible to show for all of it.

Such a noble man. He also said slavery was worse for white people than the actual enslaved blacks. Seriously. He felt blacks should be grateful that they were enslaved.

Have you ever read Lincoln's opinions on the subject?
