They offered me $3500 for my sons truck and I sold it for $8500. Offered me $13000 for my wife’s car and I sold it for $16500. I’m not a big math guy but I think I did better that the 10% taxes.

Interesting, hadn't thought about that place. If you have any experience with them, is their offer typically about what a dealer would offer for trade in?
it will likely be higher than what a dealer will offer you. (not always, but generally speaking yes).
The tax point brought up is a good one, so what you can do is have the dealer match Carmax (after they make you an offer).

GivemetheVIN will beat your CarMax offer by $100 as a standing rule, and will accept the CarMax appraisal if you get one.

Listening to their radio show on Saturday, they deal with local dealers in greater New Orleans who will do a courtesy trade with GivemetheVin so you get the tax credit too.

I've taken 2 cars to Carmax, and they low balled the hell out of me both times. Granted, both cars were older and they were going to have to send them to auction. If it's a car they can keep in inventory and sell, they'll usually give you a fair offer.

easy as can be and you’ll probably get slightly more. Just no arguing the price they give you. It is what it is take it or leave it

I upgraded to a 13 Yukon yesterday. Have never sold a vehicle and now have a pace car and Silverado to sell. All I need to do is a bill of sale with the buyer, remove the plate and sign the back of the title and leave the notary stuff up to them right???

Craigslist. Get the most legitimate buyers on there.

FB Marketplace is full of ultra-low-IQ sacks of shite who flake or lowball.

Carmax is a last resort if you don't have the patience to deal with the private market.

easiest way
Trade in at the dealership. Save the headache and save a little on sales tax for the new vehicle.

Other than that, FB Marketplace or Craigslist

Do a bill of sale (with odometer statement and "as is" sale info) and title signatures with a notary present. Preferably at the bank that issues the cashier's check so you verify at that issuing bank before or at the transaction. Or do a cash transaction with the notary present. be sure to cancel the plate online and do the transfer of vehicle notice on the OMV website.

I've sold about 10 vehicles on FB marketplace and you definitely get the biggest bang for your buck there. Tell low ballers no but eventually someone will be interested

Thinking about listing on FB first in hopes for the best deal. May give it a couple weeks but looking to do something by the end of the month so may have to go the Carmax or GMTV route if not trade it in.

Hopefully I can get it done by then.

Just sold mine on Facebook Marketplace.

Easy peasy. Used NADA and got about $1,500 over what I thought.

If it's a piece of crap it's probably better to trade it in.

No.
If you trade it in you're certain to get the lower of the three values it’s worth (NADA). Private seller will buy for it as much as you can swing.
