Is Baton Rouge now officially more dangerous or just as dangerous as Chicago?

Oh I feel safer in Nola than I do in Baton Rouge and it’s not even close my friend.

Time to chalk up another tally to the 2021 BR homicide tracker. And to think there’s a good amount of time left in 2021, last years homicide numbers will certainly be shattered.

I remember sprinting to the Texas Club because it was so bad and we were afraid to walk. The 80's and 90's in BR were an extreme time of crime....
The stats should prove my memory.

It absolutely was bad in Mall City and in the 70805 then but mostly at night and contained to that area. But there were no random shootings on Siegen, Perkins, Millerville, O'Neal etc.

Eta: it was not scary to go to Bon Marche Mall. It was terrifying to drive any of the streets behind the mall. Crime was very contained in pockets back then.

Mall City is a cesspool of violent crime and drugs. I went to the Texas Club once over 10 years ago and there were thugs watching the the parking lot, looking for people who were “slippin”

I used to go to Texas Club all the time in the 90s. I don't ever remember anything like this.

The population of BR in 1993, which was probably the peak year for crime, was 399,000. Today it's 746,000. There were about 700,000 violent crimes reported in 1993. That's about 3.5 times more violent crimes than reported in 2020, and the population in 1993 was about half of what it is today. That shows how ridiculous crime was back in the 90s.

The city of BR has had a stagnant population since 1980.

The metro population might have gone up some but it certainly hasn't doubled in 25 years. It's at best growing at 1-2%, if that. The population increase is because we added a bunch of parishes into what we consider the metro.

In 2003, the Baton Rouge area was expanded to its current size with the addition of five more parishes: East Feliciana, Iberville, Pointe Coupee, St. Helena, and West Feliciana

This was the early/mid 80's. Trust me if you were female you did not walk to your car... you ran. Why we went out there is beyond me.

Even East Baton Rouge parish, which is mostly what we are talking about here, has less people in it now than it did in 2010. So yes, the murder rate is significantly higher today than it has ever been. Nobody counts a murder in Clinton or Livingston.

Word on The street is that the Mom is a cop... Haven't heard a word about that on the media. If it truly is Wendy Aymond then I know her husband and she is a Sheriff. Wonder if the kid had her gun.

The record murder numbers only count EBRP, not the metro. And 95% of those happen in the city of BR with a few sprinkled in from Baker and St George. EBR never even sniffed the numbers we are seeing today with just about the same number of people.

Yeah that population data I used evidently included surrounding parishes. East Baton Rouge parish has about 60,000 more people today though than in 1990.

Right but BR proper is losing people and that's where 90-95% of the murders occur. The murder rate here is easily double what it was even 10-15 years ago.

ETA - I'm not sure about where we stand atm but we were tied for the highest murder rate in the country a month or so ago

Seems more like a mental issue that has gone out of control. This is not the normal drug deal gone bad or armed robbery that you would typically see in North Baton Rouge.

If he would have pulled a weapon on me or my family I would have taken him out. The difference I dealt with pricks like this for over 20 years and my anger and training would have taken over.

We aren’t doing SWB and Paul any favors when Crue like this happens in SBR. I hate that any of this happened, as this was not some street war between two pussies, because the deceased was great people.

But tack one on “Tough on Crime” Broome board.
