re: Should I leave Ukraine?

Ukrainians, wake up and go to work or school. On the weekends they visit family. They don't much care who is running the country. All I can say is groceries have gotten more expensive since 2014 and most factories in her area are now closed. They had it better, in her region, when they had a Russian puppet in charge.

Also, you say your wife’s sister either just had a baby or is planning to. Apologies if you said already, but who/where is the father of that baby in all this?
The sister and her husband moved to Russia in 2014 when the revolt took place. The sister delivered her second child in Jan 2021. The wife and I had our baby in March 2021. So they were looking forward to getting together in Ukraine and were going to spend a few months together. With this invasion, the sister is not allowed to enter Ukraine now.

Why were they so convinced nothing would happen?
I think the biggest reason is their media and Zelensky were down playing it. They also have been dealing with war in politic stuff since 2014. They also view Russia as a brother country, not an enemy. At least in the Donbas region.
Why do people believe the propaganda their governments feeds them? I have no idea.

Not that I need to explain myself to you dipshit but it doesn't stop me from working. I can still get another job and I will if I need the money. All a disability retirement says is I'm not able to do some of the essential functions of my job. I can no longer do that particular job and I can retire early and collect from my own company, not the government. I am free to go get another job even as I collect my early retirement.
I suffered a series of strokes at my current job, which happens to be extremely stressful. Not that it is any of your business. If I need some more money, I will work somewhere less stressful.

Well you predicament now isn’t helping your stress level. Probably need to quit worrying about what random twats on here think about you. If you’d have left after invasion started I’d be bashing you but you left beforehand with nobody thinking it was gonna happen. I don’t see the big deal and that’s me looking at it from a perspective I don’t understand. I’ve never married a foreigner who travels back to her old country
If you had to come back home to get financial stuff and doctor appointments taken care and then try and go back it seems understandable, unfortunately timing dictated otherwise and that’s bad luck. Doesn’t make you a bad dude. Calm down, quit trying to defend yourself, and stay in touch with wife best you can

Dude, you’re making all of this bullshite everyone’s business. You let your family get caught in the middle of what might be one of the most consequential world events of our lifetime and your first stop for advice was a college football message board.

I don't have to justify my health and finances to that dip shite. Lets stick to Ukraine.

I bought that plane ticket in Nov. 2021. When things started heating up in the beginning of Feb. my family started telling me to get out. Honestly, I thought if something were to happen it would be before the 13th and I would just stay in deal with it or Putin would back down. It didn't go down like that.
I hate not being there with them but sadly they are safer with me here. I have the money in the checking if they need it. They could shoot me for just being an American. Who is going to stop them? They could shoot my wife and baby just for harboring me. I don't want to sound dramatic and I would much rather be there right now but that is a reality.

I know you said you looked at catching a flight to Warsaw. I would check with the Polish authorities - I think they are not requiring visas at the border (or something like that was mentioned on one of the news broadcasts showing refugees).
Maybe your wife can get close to the Polish border and get out that way.
Praying for you and your family.

Believe it or not, I actually got some good advice that night. The best advice I had was to take a trip, lets say Istanbul and give it another week or two. That didn't work out, but it was a good idea.

You also got a lot of people telling you not to believe what pretty much every media outlet was reporting , which was that a Putin invasion was highly likely.. you yourself upthread admitted that this board is chock full of morons .

The wife could probably leave right now. I know half of Kiev left.
I couldn't imagine the conditions they are under. Traffic, no hotels, refugee camps, lines at the gas stations, toilet on side of the road.
Her parents are still going to work. The IVF clinic in Kiev is still open, amazingly. The bombing in her region should stop soon and I don't think they will be any fighting there. Too many Pro-Russians in her area. It's hard to know what to expect. We can only guess right now. Will she be able to go to Kiev in April? Will the sister be able to visit when the puppet regime takes over? Will I be able to go there at any time, now or June as planned?

Just saw this thread, didn't read it all but got the gist. Holy shite. I'm always amazed at how differently so many people live their lives from me.
By the way I know this is a serious situation but this is still the OT and rules are fricking rules. You've been talking in detail about your crazy (hot?) Ukranian wife for weeks but you haven't posted a single pic. It's time. Pics?

His wife made her decision, he made his.
If sucks but all these armchair experts pretending to know what the best choice was have no way of knowing what the results would have been. Maybe they shoot up the whole family for having an American or he gets taken hostage

Yea who knows what would have happened if he would have taken his daughter with him when he left Ukraine

I mean Ukraine is going to fall into Russian hands, and there is zero chance he’ll be able to get back in with UN/US sanctions for years probably
Your wife needs to evacuate asap

N2dawild, you made the best decision at the time with the information you had. Don’t beat yourself up over it. Had you stayed, it might have been worse for your family. Also, you may be in a better position to help them later by being on the outside. My prayers are with you.
