Thx for the updates brother. Prayers and support sent for you and your in-laws who are directly affected. Your posts along with the video shared from vlogger “bald and bankrupt “ have provided a first hand account of living in an Eastern Bloc country bordering Russia

UPDATE:
Everyone is still okay. They are without water but have electricity and gas. They are using a "over toilet" in the back yard. Mother-in-law is working virtually now, as of 2 days ago. Father-in-law still going to work, he has babies to deliver. They are not allowed to drive right now, so he is walking to work and staying at my sister-in-law's vacant house closer to his work. He had a bad limp the whole time I was there, so I know that walk in the snow and ice is not easy on him.
I told my wife, I intended to buy a plane ticket into Poland, March 22nd. She told me that I will be stuck in Poland and will not get through the roadblocks. She said she will not be able to get to me either. She told me the airports in Kiev and Kharkiv are still good and I need to wait until they open up.
I have to decide if I am going to take her advice or not. A part of me believes that she is correct and my attempts to reach them or get them out will be futile. There is another part of me that thinks it can be done.

As a male are you even allowed to leave. I didn't think they were allowing males 18-60 to leave?
Posted on 3/7/22 at 1:22 pm to TimeOutdoors
Dude at this point you better go and try your damn hardest to get in. If you cannot then so be it. This will haunt you the rest of your life. If you don’t go some other man is going to raise your child and screws your ex. She is loving amongst tons of men fighting for their families. You look weak as F

This only applies to Ukrainian men.

Never take a woman’s advice when it comes to matters of war.

My wife actually knows me and I can promise you she doesn't think that.

Not to be a dick, but her advice didn’t work the first time. I wouldn’t take it a second time given where it’s lead.
Is there a physical path to Poland, Hungary, or Romania? If so, she needs to attempt to get there with help. Her parents, trusted friends, somebody locally who gives a shite about a mother and child. Align this effort with your destination to receive and bring her home.

What is the money situation? I mean, how long would you be able to stay in Poland? And what are your intentions once you get there - to try and get across all of Ukraine?
Jesus. I thank God these are not decisions that I have to make.
Do they have any way to access their money? I heard on the radio today that people are booking Air BnB rooms in Ukraine with no intention of course of actually going as a method to get people in the Ukraine money. I don't know how Air BnB works but if there was some way for them to make a listing, you could book it and send them some $$$.......

That is going to be a really long wait. No one is going to fly into the country and land at those airports until the hostilities are over and the airspace has been re-opened.

It's not safe for them to leave. Right now the best thing they could do is stay put. I saw a photo today of a Mother, her two children and a friend dead in the street from a mortar, trying to evacuate Kiev.
I'm willing to take risk to get to them but I can't let my emotions turn into pure stupidity either. I will do my family no good dead or in jail. Even if I get to them, I would probably be more of a burden then a help. Ukraine is the size of Texas and they are on the other side of Ukraine from Poland. To think that I can make it there without having to show my American passport at some point is foolish. She is telling me that the Ukrainian army will not let me through. If it is a Russian roadblock, you can imagine how that would work out.
As for taking a woman's advise for matters of war, unfortunately she knows more about the transportation there then I do. I have contacted charities, embassies, churches trying to find a way in. They have all told me that I am not allowed to go in.
This is what I am up against. I fly to Warsaw and I find a way to the border. I then have to find a way into Ukraine and I don't know where to start. The language barrier will not make that task any easier. The situation changes daily, so it is impossible to predict or make a plan. All that said, I'm still tempted to go and find out for myself.

There could be a scenario where she gets to Poland with my daughter and her son. Her son is not allowed in the States right now, until Biden starts taking refugees. In that scenario we could rent cheap apartments in Europe until this ends.
Her money situation is okay right now. She has my credit card and was able to buy supplies. ATM isn't working but her parents have cash.

Then I guess I’d plan to go as you’ve indicated. I don’t envy your decisions. That’s what I meant by physical path though, avoiding cities as much as they can, particularly the targets like Kyiv. If rural travel is not an option for her then I guess I’m with you to try to get in there to her. But if she can’t travel through rural areas avoiding battle and shelling as best she can, what exactly can you do if you can get into Ukraine?
Don’t know your background or specifics, but is it possible to take one of these defense contract jobs to get into the country and make your way to her? Then you’d be allowed through and armed. Have friends willing to attempt it with you?

This made me laugh because it's such an awful attempt at the English language

I'm just hoping that this ends soon. Many people in the Russian government didn't think Putin would actually invade according to an article I read today. There are government officials and some Russian billionaires not to happy with this war. The fact that Russians are protesting is pretty powerful. They know that when they protest, they are met with clubs and jail time. So for every protester there are probably 100 more at home not agreeing with it. Putin is more likely to give into internal pressure than external pressure.
The fact that they have negotiated three times now after eleven days of war is telling. Putin wants out, but they are going to have to give him something to save face.

Perhaps not that, but I'm not ruling out some back door in like that. They are driving supplies in. Maybe I can pay the driver to tag along. That probably doesn't get me through the roadblocks though. There might be a way in and I don't think I'm going to find it on the internet. That's why I am tempted to go there and find out for myself.
